Cumberland Grange care home in Exeter recently presented Honiton Carers Support Group with a cheque for £1,000 to support towards the cost of transport to enable their participants to attend the group. Honiton Carers Support Group is a warm and welcoming Carers Group which supports unpaid carers throughout their caring role and beyond. Charity will writing campaign raises £1 million for County Air Ambulance Trust HELP Appeal

A NATIONAL charity will writing campaign has smashed its £1 million fundraising target for the County Air Ambulance Trust HELP Appeal.

Since June 2014, Wills and Legal Services has provided people across the country with a professionally-written Will in exchange for a donation to the appeal.

And the Specialist Paralegal Law Firm reached the magical mark after raising £33,589 in December, bringing the overall total to £1,009,264.25.

The appeal funds life-saving helipads so air ambulances can land directly at hospitals throughout the UK.

PetRocks! Fundraiser for Exeter charity

Exeter Cavern will play host to the first PetRocks! fundraiser gig to help people in the city who are homeless.

Organised by local businessman and guitarist Dan Pritchard, of Susannah and the Noise, the gig on Thursday February 20 at the Gandy Street venue will see proceeds go to local charity St Petrock’s, which is working to address the problems caused by homelessness in and around Exeter.

Susannah and the Noise will be joined by Lottie, Ghost Hands and Charlotte AP for the gig.

Last year, between 45 and 95 people were accessing the charity’s drop-in homelessness...

Sell-out curry night raises £3K for Hospiscare

Two East Devon businesses that joined forces to put on a fundraising curry night raised £3,000 for local charity, Hospiscare.

The event was held in October at Higher Wiscombe Holiday Cottages, when Chef Robin Rea from Ottery’s Rusty Pig and his team created an Indian banquet. The meal featured sustainably sourced goat and chicken curry, with edible table decorations proving a real hit with diners.

Celebrated actor Mark Bonnar becomes patron of national charity Heart Research UK

Scottish actor Mark Bonnar, star of Guilt, Line of Duty and Shetland, is to become a patron of national charity Heart Research UK.

Mark first became involved with the charity in 2018, producing a piece of original artwork that was auctioned as part of the charity’s anonymous heART project.

Since then, he has been involved with various campaigns, including Heart Research UK's Heart of Scotland appeal, a dedicated fundraising campaign to raise money to take on Scotland’s biggest killer –heart disease.

Families are being invited to get their tickets for ‘Exeter’s brightest’ 5k charity fun run, taking place at Westpoint this summer.

Registration for Rainbow Run on Saturday, June 20 opened yesterday Thursday (January 30), with a 25 per cent discount available for those who sign up early.

Cancer Research UK is calling on men, women and children to wear one of the charity’s brightly coloured Unity Bands with pride on Tuesday, February 4.

Sally Chapman from Chudleigh celebrated her birthday this year by having her head shaved to raise money for Alzheimer’s Research UK, the UK’s leading dementia research charity.

Sally, who turned 55, was inspired by her father who had vascular dementia.

In the build up to her head shave, Sally raised over £1300 for Alzheimer’s Research UK, which powers world-class studies focusing on prevention, diagnosis and treatments for dementia. A Torbay garden centre celebrated the amount raised for the RNLI in the run up to Christmas 2019 with a visit from Stormy Sam.

In just three months, staff and customers at Otter Garden Centre in Moles Lane raised over £1,200 for the charity that that is reliant on voluntary donations to power its lifesaving work at sea.
