Exeter charity launches free "Joy Rides" to help people get cycling again

Ride On is launching a new, free cycling programme aimed at beginners, people returning to cycling after a break, or anyone looking for a sociable ride to help them get back outside this summer.

Called Joy Rides, the sessions launch on Saturday 18 July and run weekly through to September, alternating between Saturday mornings and Wednesday evenings to fit around work, family, and shift patterns. Each ride follows one of three easy, mostly traffic-free routes around Exeter Quay, the Exe estuary, and Topsham, led by trained ride leaders and open to all abilities.

A team from National Highways will be taking to the roads of the South West over 24 hours later this month to raise funds for two mental health charities.

On June 23rd/24th, five members of the company’s South West team will attempt to cycle 261 miles on winding and hilly roads from Penzance in Cornwall, through Devon, Somerset and South Gloucestershire, to Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire.

The Bowling Green , Exeter has raised around £5,000 for Devon Air Ambulance Trust through a ‘Big Shave; event. The pub is still accepting donations made in person at the pub and online through a JustGiving site.

The licensees, Nigel Cook and Saskia Russell were joined by Mike Knight, who lives in the area, and they all shaved their heads. An Exeter woman is set to tackle an epic 600-mile cycle challenge to support the charity which helped her as a teenager following cancer treatment.

On Saturday 14 May, OAndy Vodden, Assistant Provincial Grand Master of the Devon Freemasons paid a visit to the Hollow Lane Club, a registered charity which works within the Ellen Tinkham School in Exeter. The Nello is back and cyclists can’t wait

One of Devon’s most iconic outdoor events is back this summer after a two-year break.

And the good news is, there’s still time to be a part of it.

The Nello bike ride - FORCE’s Cancer Charity’s biggest single fundraising event of the year – will take place on Sunday June 26.

Up to 1,500 cyclists will gather on the start line at Topsham Rugby Club, ready to take on the personal challenge of riding 55 or 100 miles.
