Devon charities announced as partners for huge weekend of live music

Four Devon-based charities have been selected to be official partners for the county’s biggest music event this summer.

TK Maxx presents Live At Powderham runs for four nights from Thursday June 25 to Sunday June 28, featuring headline shows from vocal powerhouse Teddy Swims, seven-time GRAMMY winner Alanis Morissette and global superstar Lewis Capaldi.

Each night will see a local charity given the opportunity to have a team of fundraisers on site and for 2026 Live At Powderham will support Devon-based charities who make a big impact in the communities they serve....

Axhayes launches Santa Paws Appeal

Saturday 12th December 2015 sees the launch of this years Exeter Axhayes adoption centre annual Santa Paws Appeal.

The launch coincides at their ever popular Coffee morning. The coffee morning starts at 11am and goes on until 2pm and is being held at Axhayes adoption centre, Sidmouth Road, Exeter. opposite the Exeter AFC training ground.Come along, meet the many cats and kittens, chat to the staff and volunteers and have a cuppa and a cake.

Pig out for the Devon Freewheelers

Ethical chef Robin Rea will be cooking up a storm in aid of the Devon Freewheelers blood bike charity at Rusty Pig in Ottery St Mary on November 29.

The special event will raise funds for the charity, which provides a free out-of-hours service to the NHS to deliver blood and other medical requirements to hospitals across the county and beyond via motorbikes ridden by volunteer riders.

RISE‘n’Shine Festival for recovery community

A music and arts festival is being held to raise money for Devon’s first permanent recovery café. The RISE 'n' Shine Festival will take place on Friday 27th November from 6pm at Sidwells Street Methodist Church in Exeter. Proceeds will go towards setting up the county’s first permanent community café for people recovering from a drug or alcohol issue. The project is being organised by RISE Recovery, which provides drug and alcohol services across Devon. Glen goes the extra mile – or 200 – for charity

Glen Bevan’s story of hope and transformation is inspirational. A few years ago he was overweight and a borderline alcoholic, he suffered a collapsed lung and doctors told him to change his lifestyle or die.

Now, as an ultra-endurance athlete, he’s taking on a huge physical and mental challenge in aid of a local charity.

Olympian Jo Pavey, MBE, officially opened our new £1.2m Kings House Day Hospice in Honiton today.

Jo, who lives locally said: "I am deeply honoured to be asked to open this fantastic building in the town where I was born.

Charity Christmas Tree Festival set to light up Princesshay

Princesshay’s Roman Walk will be sparkling with festive cheer as the centre hosts its third Charity Christmas Tree Festival.

The festival, which aims to raise both awareness and funds for local charities, will be opened with a celebratory light switch-on by the Lord Mayor of Exeter at 5pm on Friday 20 November. Representatives from participating charities will be attending the event, which follows the centre’s main Christmas lights switch-on on Thursday evening.

Runners raise funds for rare illness charity

PETE Williams has marked his 50th birthday by running in a marathon and a half marathon – and also raising money for a charity that supports women with a rare illness.

He recently completed the Bristol to Bath marathon, and prior to that competed in the Great West Run in Exeter.

Pete, a dental technician who lives in Silverton, near Exeter, took part in the events with fellow Silverton residents Russ Winter, an entrepreneur, Kimble West, a civil engineer and Nick Hopkinson, an IT manager, who run as Team Silverton Old Dads in green and gold running kit.
