Exeter Leukaemia Fund wins MAB Foundation's £20,000 anniversary grant

The Mortgage Advice Bureau Foundation has awarded its one-off £20,000 Extra Funding Grant to Exeter Leukaemia Fund (ELF), a charity supporting people affected by blood cancer and their families.

The award marks three years of grant-giving by the Foundation, which has supported around 60 UK charities and raised over £550,000 since launching in 2022. Every previous grant recipient was invited to apply for the anniversary grant, with five charities shortlisted and asked to submit a video for colleagues and business partners to vote on.

A local company who raise funds for a children’s cancer charity have teamed up with Exeter Chiefs to make a day to remember for local families who have been affected by cancer.

Adopstar, an advertising company based in Cullumpton, are a corporate partner of CLIC Sargent, the UK’s leading cancer charity for children and young people. Now the company have gone that extra mile by setting up a special day for local families at Premiership champions, Exeter Chiefs.

Barratt Homes staff complete charity skydive

Staff from Barratt Homes in Exeter have completed one of their most ambitious charity challenges – a skydive over the South Devon countryside.

Thirteen brave souls from the housebuilder’s regional division in Exeter completed the challenge to raise money for the Exeter Foundation.

Local charity Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) has a new initiative for September. The charity is encouraging supporters to donate postage stamps to help raise funds for the charity’s three children’s hospices in the region.

All kinds of stamps can be donated; new, old, used and collectable. Large quantities of stamps can be sold online to collectors, and the money raised will help the hospices to provide support and care for local children with life-limiting conditions and their families.

In lieu of the firm's usual charges, Ashfords will be preparing Wills in exchange for a donation to Alzheimer's Society, their chosen charity of the year.

Local radio and TV personality Judi Spiers has set off with her long term pal, Gus Honeybun to visit as many coffee mornings as they can in September.

Knockout day at Topsham raises vital funds

Teams from across the area took part in a day of fun and games at FORCE Cancer Charity’s third annual It’s A Knockout event.

More than 300 people tackled a series of challenges at Topsham Rugby Club including giant inflatable obstacles, water slides and foam-filled bouncy games.

It’s one of the most colourful events on the local fundraising calendar with all the teams in fancy dress.

September street party to raise awareness of pancreatic cancer

Local lady Wendy from Chudleigh will be hosting her annual, fun-filled street party on Saturday September 2nd. This year she will be raising money for a charity close to her heart, Pancreatic Cancer Action.

Wendy, owner of the Bishop Lacy Inn on Fore Street organises the community event to bring everyone together for a day of celebration that anyone can come along to free of charge. After last year’s success, this year’s Jolly Good Jaunt will be held on the morning of Sunday 29th October. It is a 7.5-mile sponsored walk from the Deer Park Country House Hotel through the breath-taking beauty of the autumnal East Devon countryside.

Charity conversion for signed Exeter Chiefs shirt

The auction of a signed Exeter Chiefs rugby union shirt has raised £215 to help disabled and terminally ill children in Devon.

The online auction was the idea of local parents Rachel and Ryan Berryman whose son Reed, aged three, underwent extensive brain surgery in 2015 and now demonstrates challenging behaviours and has a visual impairment. Rising Chiefs star Max Bodily, who plays Full Back/Wing in the 2017 Aviva premiership winning team, provided the shirt for the fundraiser.
