Businesses and residents throughout Exeter are invited to drop off sacks of confidential waste to be shredded free of charge at a one-day event at Exeter City Football Club car park on Thursday 28 January, from 10am to 4pm.

The event is hosted by recycling and waste specialists, Coastal Recycling, who offer a confidential waste shredding service to keep Devon SMEs compliant and safe. They are facilitating the free confidential shredding day to mark European Data Protection Day 2016.

The confidential shredding service from Coastal Recycling offers a corporate solution to Britain’s increased threat from identity fraudsters who target gaps in data protection, costing the UK over £2.7bn a year. To crack down on preventable fraud, the government will fine businesses of any size up to £500,000 for breaching the Data Protection Act. This could be as a result of failure to encrypt personal information, confusing customer records or not disposing of records correctly.

The new flexible shredding service will collect, shred, recycle and provide certification for each sack of confidential waste either as a one-off purge, or as part of a regular service. It is the perfect solution for any business or individual who processes personal information, financial details, client records or databases.

The collection can take place either at the workplace or off-site, thanks to the specialist equipment fitted inside the lorry. The built in shredder can process kilos of paper per hour, leaving the contents completely unrecognisable before it is recycled. Uniformed and security checked drivers operate the high security vehicle, which is also fitted with CCTV and trackers.

"It only takes one sensitive document to fall into the wrong hands to be exposed to identity theft. Firms can reduce this risk by regularly disposing of this information at the source.’ says Richard Marsh, Coastal Recycling’s Business Development Director.

"I’m sure many people will agree it’s not worth the hassle running an office shredder and wasting time doing it themselves. Our new service is convenient and effortless – you don’t need to remove staples or paperclips, simply place all your confidential waste in the sacks that we provide you with, seal it up and let us handle the rest."
