Stagecoach South West has joined forces with the North Devon Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) to produce a new guide to visiting some of the region’s best pubs by bus.

’21 pubs on the 21 bus route’ includes pubs perfect for families, pubs with history, pubs with live music or sports and ones that serve great food. Of course, it goes without saying, that all pubs featured also carry a great selection of real ales.

The pubs are all located on, or close to, Stagecoach’s flagship 21/21A North Devon Wave bus service, connecting Ilfracombe, Braunton, Barnstaple, Bideford and Westward Ho! Intrepid CAMRA explorers can plan their own itineraries, choosing whether to visit more than one establishment in a day or just stay in one location. Whatever the choice, Stagecoach’s buses allow them to relax and let someone else do the driving home.

Chris Harbour, Operations Manager for Stagecoach in North Devon, commented “Our 21 service runs up to every 10 minutes, 7 days a week until late into the evening, making it the ideal choice for exploring the pubs featured in this new guide. I’ll certainly be taking the opportunity to visit a few places I’ve not been to before!”

Bob Goddard, North Devon CAMRA Public Transport Officer, added: “The North Devon Branch of CAMRA is delighted to be associated with Stagecoach South West in the publication of this most worthwhile leaflet.  In rural areas such as ours, where the availability of public transport to access pubs is often difficult and in some cases non-existent, it is important to demonstrate just what can be possible.

“We are sure that this initiative will help more people to enjoy some of the great pubs we have in our area.  Encouraging greater use of these pubs on the 21 bus route will do much to ensure their on-going viability.”

‘21 pubs on the 21 bus route’ will shortly be available free of charge at locations across North Devon including Barnstaple bus station, Tourist Information Centres, libraries and accommodation providers. CAMRA will also have copies to hand out at upcoming Exeter and Barnstaple beer festivals. Alternatively, it can be viewed and downloaded from their website www.northdevoncamra.org.uk.
Stagecoach offers a range of great value, unlimited travel day tickets including the North Devon Dayrider for only £3.90 and a Group Explorer which allows up to 5 people to travel together for only £15.40. A Niterider ticket is also available for only £3 which gives unlimited travel after 7pm in the evening. All day tickets can be bought direct from the driver.
