Bridge Road improvements to start in New Year

Devon County Council has announced initial details of a 14-month scheme to widen Bridge Road in Exeter, developing two continuous outbound lanes from Countess Wear to the Matford roundabout.

The £13.45 million scheme will aim to tackle queuing and reduce journey times for all traffic, while at the same time improving links for pedestrians and cyclists.

East Devon law firm shares Christmas cheer with the local business community

Around fifty people from a range of East Devon businesses joined solicitors Beviss & Beckingsale and their chosen charity See The Future for a cracker of a festive lunch at Honiton’s Deer Park Hotel.

The guest list for the event included local surveyors, estate agents, accountants, lawyers and other businesses from hairdressers to auctioneers.

Bramble Ward receives Christmas cheer thanks to RBS

Staff and customers at The Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) in Exeter have brought some early Christmas presents to the young patients on Bramble Ward at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

The team from the Exeter branch in Southrenhay and the commercial team at Pynes Hill donated a huge selection of toys and games for the children to enjoy.

This Christmas, the staff were keen to support local children who may have to stay in hospital over the festive period, so they put up posters in their branch asking for donations of toys.

Adam Hughes says he leaves Exeter Chiefs a better player after he today confirmed he has re-joined former club Newport-Gwent Dragons on a permanent deal.

GWR is urging passengers to check journey times before they travel over the Christmas period as Network Rail carry out vital works to modernise the rail infrastructure.

Services will be altered between Thursday 24 December and Sunday 3 January as part of a programme of engineering in the Thames Valley needed for the launch of Crossrail in 2019, and continued works to electrify the Great Western mainline.

Six University of Exeter academics appear on a list of the world’s most influential scientific minds that is published this week.

Inclusion on the authoritative Thomson Reuters Highly Cited Researchers list for 2015 puts the academics, who are working across the natural, biomedical and social sciences, in the top one per cent of researchers globally. Update: Police have reported a happy ending to the unclaimed Christmas presents case as the rightful owners have been located.

Police are appealing to the public following Christmas presents being handed in at Newton Abbot Station that are so far unclaimed.

The gifts have tags stating “To Warren from Dad” and “To Evelyn from Dad” and were initially left outside a house on Sandringham Road, Newton Abbot before being handed into the police.
