Chiefs & City battle it out during showroom bake-off event

To celebrate the first anniversary of The Room Works, a kitchen and bathroom showroom on Alphinbrook Road, Exeter City FC and the Exeter Chiefs battled it out during a charity bake-off on Thursday 4th May and, following a highly competitive showdown, City were crowned the baking champions.

Following the players’ first head to head at a cook-off to celebrate the launch of the showroom in May 2016 – which was deemed a draw – the players once again came together with both teams determined to outdo the other.

Experts from the University of Exeter and the Met Office will bring their research out of the laboratory and into city watering holes, as the world's largest festival of public science talks arrives in Exeter. next week

Coffee lovers are being encouraged to drink from reusable cups when getting their take-outs in Exeter. Exeter City Council’s Recycling department will be handing out free limited edition Denis the Dustcart KeepCups at a series of giveaway events around the city. The aim is that people will use the cups as a cup for life. Disposable coffee cups are a big problem. A38 CLOSED

The A38 east bound is closed due to a fatal accident between A383 (Goodstone Junction) and A382 Newton Road (Drum Bridges).

The closure, which was announced at around 6am, means the stretch of road from Goodstone to Drumbridges is currently shut.

Diversions are in place.

Police say the road is expected to be closed for several hours.

UPDATE: Traffic returned to normal, earlier accident on A38 Eastbound between A383 (Goodstone Junction) and A382 Newton Road (Drum Bridges).

The enormous food and drink pavilion at the Devon County Show held on May 18-20 at Westpoint, Exeter is the largest yet.

Measuring a colossal 105 metres by 25 metres, it is 10 metres longer than last year and will house even more artisan producers, a seating area and a cookery demonstration theatre.

Chemical spill on Marsh Barton Industrial Estate

Fire crews were called to a chemical spill at Marsh Barton Industrial Estate this morning (Thusday).

Engines from Exeter along with an environmental protection unit from Newton Abbot were sent to a report of a chemical that had been spilled on the road in Yeoford Way just after 9.30am.

On arrival the crew confirmed that this was Sodium Hydroxide which had leaked from a delivery lorry.

The crew used two breathing apparatus wearers and environmental protection equipment to remove the pallet from the van to gain access to the leaking drum.

Sandy Park remains fully open for business despite a kitchen fire at the venue overnight.

Firefighters from the Devon and Somerset Fire Service were called to the stadium in the early hours of this morning following the blaze, which was restricted to an office in the downstairs kitchen area.

The fire, which has caused minor smoke damage, was safely extinguished and no one was injured during the incident.
