Dick Knittington appeal

Exeter Northcott Theatre is appealing for knitters to help prepare for its Christmas pantomime.

The theatre would like volunteers to create knitted cupcakes that can be used during the 60 performances of Dick Whittington, which takes place from Saturday 2 December until Sunday 7 January.

As a thank you for the support the Northcott hopes to receive through the appeal, it has teamed up with Home-Start Exeter and Devon & Cornwall Housing Association to offer 500 free pantomime tickets to families who may not be in a financial position to come to the theatre this Christmas...

Erosion impacts on Teignmouth flood defence scheme

The completion of flood defence works in Teignmouth has been delayed until September after additional essential repair work was identified to tackle erosion under the sea wall.

Teignbridge has needed to reschedule the end date of the vital works to deal with voids found underneath the structure and ensure its ongoing integrity.

Businesses in Devon looking to reach new customers are being encouraged to apply for the latest round of Devon County Council’s Business Promotion Grant.

Grants of up to £1,000 are available to help firms in the county to promote their products and services to wider audiences at trade shows and events.

More than 20 companies have benefited from the funding scheme launched by Devon County Council last year as part of its Devon Delivers programme, which promotes Devon as an innovative business location with great businesses.

Stars from the sporting, entertainment and culinary world came together last Friday 30th June to celebrate Devon's community sporting heroes and heroines for the 20th Devon Sports Awards.

The glittering celebration evening was the culmination of a six month nomination and shortlisting process. The Devon Sports Awards recognise and celebrate the best of both community and professional sport in Devon. Guests assembled at Sandy Park for the annual celebration organised by a partnership of the Exeter Foundation, Active Devon and Exeter College.

Exeter School opens new indoor pool

Exeter School is celebrating the opening of its new indoor pool.

Chairman of Governors and former pupil Andrew King officially opened the pool during a ceremony on 28 June.

A generous donation from an anonymous benefactor enabled Exeter School to build the first-class, 25-metre four-lane pool for the benefit of Exeter School pupils and local schoolchildren. The Governors agreed to match fund the donation in order to integrate the pool fully with the existing sports facilities.

A Devon taxi driver, who stood up for an elderly couple being preyed on by gang of rogue traders, has been honoured with a Hero Award.

Chris Smith, 37, owner of Black Swan Taxis, Dawlish, was awarded the Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI) Hero Award at their annual conference on Wednesday 28 June.

He was nominated by the Devon, Somerset and Torbay Trading Standards Service for his ‘outstanding contribution to consumer protection’ when he intervened to prevent doorstep traders from ripping off an elderly couple in March.

Motorcyclist seriously injured in Exeter crash

Police were called just after 7pm on Friday 30 June 2017 to reports of a two vehicle collision on the Moor Lane junction with Osprey Road, Sowton, Exeter.

A black Alfa Romeo MiTO car and a Honda CB 600 motorbike were both travelling northbound from the direction of Exeter Moto Services towards the Honiton Road Park and Ride Roundabout when the collision occurred.

The rider of the motorbike, a 22-year-old man from Exeter, sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.
