Tesco becomes first supermarket to join defibrillator network that could save lives

Tesco has become the UK’s first supermarket to begin registering its 2190 defibrillators to a new national database that could improve cardiac arrest survival rates in the UK. It is the biggest single addition of defibrillators to the database so far.

The database, called The Circuit: The National Defibrillator Network, aims to map all public access defibrillators, allowing ambulance services to direct bystanders to the nearest registered defibrillator if they see somebody having a cardiac arrest.

Brewin Dolphin southwest raises over £12,000 for local children’s charity

Wealth manager Brewin Dolphin’s southwest offices (Exeter, Plymouth and Truro) have raised over £12,000 for Farms for City Children, during a two-year partnership with the charity, which began in 2020. The money raised will be able to subsidise around 39 children’s residential stay at a farm for one week.

Employees from all three offices took part in various fundraising activities to raise money, including Christmas auctions and raffles and the Brewin Dolphin 7-Day Challenge, which saw members from the respective offices walk, run or cycle 655 miles collectively over seven days....

Six local projects have been awarded funding through Devon County Council’s Natural Capital Challenge Fund.

The £300,000 grant funding pilot scheme launched last year as part of Devon's £6 million recovery programme, which aims to provide help and support in four key areas: small and medium enterprises, employment and skills, the green recovery, and the hardest hit towns and communities. Devon Work Hubs network expanded

The award-winning Devon Work Hubs network has expanded with the opening of three new hubs across the county and expansion of a fourth.

Devon County Council secured funding from the Heart of the South West LEP Getting Building Fund last year, which has now enabled three new Work Hubs to open in Great Torrington, Newton Abbot and Teignmouth. The extension of the Tavistock Enterprise Hub is also complete.

A further two Work Hubs are due to open in Ilfracombe and High Bickington in the coming months.

Small businesses and local communities in the county are being invited to apply to a new grant scheme launched by Devon County Council.

The Devon Elevation Fund (DEF) is funded through the UK Community Renewal Fund.
