Council country parks awarded top visitor award

Rangers at Devon County Council’s county parks are celebrating after receiving top awards.

Visitors to the Grand Western Canal Country Park and Local Nature Reserve and Stover Country Park have heaped praise on the countryside attractions, earning them both a Certificate of Excellence from customer review website Trip Advisor.

Peter Millett, a well-known County Probation Officer who worked in Mid and East Devon, Exeter Prison and was one of a number of outstanding Probation Liaison Officers to the Crown Court, has died aged 90. A wise and charming man of great integrity, he was an important influence on those he came into contact with during his twenty years with the then Devon Probation Service. He epitomised all that was best in that role: exercising a disciplined discretion while encouraging someone who might potentially be dangerous to face up to their responsibilities to both courts and the community....

Devon’s Community Transport Awareness Week

This week marks the third annual Community Transport Awareness Week across Devon.

“Transport for Your Community” and its Community Transport group members, who are supported by Devon County Council, are co-ordinating events for the awareness week which runs until Sunday (12 June).

Prisoners polled on their views on sentencing

Three out of four prisoners believe burglars who target homes where children live should receive tougher sentences, according to a new report.

In a revealing survey of Britain's prison population, 73% of convicts said they thought judges are too lenient on burglars, especially when their victims include the young and vulnerable.

In the survey, part of ADT’s Take No More campaign and conducted in partnership with national prison newspaper Inside Time, six in 10 (61%) prisoners serving time for burglary admitted they had not considered the impact of their crimes on youngsters...

Latest designs for Exeter bus station go on display

Detailed designs of Exeter's new bus station will go on display to the public next week.

People will be able to see the latest designs at an exhibition at Exeter Guildhall on Tuesday 14 June, from 8am until 8pm.

Around 650 attended the last exhibition to have their say on plans for a brand new bus station.

"We've sifted through all the feedback and listened to everyone's comments," said Cllr Phil Bialyk, Lead Councillor for Sport and Health & Wellbeing.
