Mamhead slipway to be temporarily closed from September

Works to replenish the rock revetment in front of Exmouth’s historic listed seawall were given the go ahead at a meeting of East Devon District Council on 25 July 2018.

The repairs to the revetment, which is adjacent to the recently completed Mamhead slipway, are required in response to a continual lowering of the estuary seabed in this location. The rock revetment, which was originally constructed in the 1970s, has become increasingly ineffective over the past ten years. The rock at the western end is moving away from the toe of the seawall, leaving it unprotected and vulnerable....

The Devon Fire and Spice Festival comes to Powderham Castle on 18th & 19th August for a celebration of barbecuing, chillies and spice. This fiery weekend takes place on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th August, set between the castle ramparts and the Exe estuary, and this themed food festival will focus on hot sauces, spice rubs and mixes, chilli plants, barbecues, smokers and barbecue sauces, with plenty for the non-chilli lover too.

New support helps asylum seeking children make new lives in Devon

The county of Devon is providing a chance to start life afresh free from fear for children who have arrived on their own in the UK having fled conflict in their native countries.

Devon has welcomed unaccompanied children seeking asylum since 2015 when under a Home Office programme up to 70 children, displaced from refugee camps outside Calais, were transferred to Devon.

Most moved quickly through the county to be reunited with relatives across the UK. A few remained and have since settled well to life in Devon.

Harry Williams insists Exeter Chiefs can ill afford to dwell on the disappointment of defeat in May’s Premiership Final against Saracens.

Brave Elodie raises £800 for RD&E Cystic Fibrosis team

Two-year-old Elodie Clark has helped to raise an incredible £800 for the Cystic Fibrosis team at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital where she is treated for the condition.

Elodie, who sat on the back of her dad’s bike and sang the entire route, cycled for 18 miles alongside family and friends from Dawlish to Exeter and back to raise money for the department where she has been treated since birth.
