Food manufacturers challenged over illegal imports

British pig farmers are challenging food manufacturers, retailers and caterers to give a public commitment that they are not selling illegally produced meat from farms that are flouting new European welfare legislation outlawing the prolonged confinement of sows in individual cages, known as “stalls”.

They have set up a website Wall-of-Fame-and-Shame which will list companies that have pledged to source imported pork products only from farms that are operating legally.

It's snowing in Exeter, but not set to last

The snow is well and truly falling in Exeter City Centre, however it is not due to last according to weather reports. The snow is scheduled to change to light rain from approximately midday.

Most delays around the City have cleared post-rush hour, however there are reports of slow traffic and a lane closed on the A380 Telegraph Hill in both directions in Ashcombe at the B3192 junction, because of snow.

Road users urged to travel with caution

Commuters and other road users are being urged to take care around Devon this evening as heavy snow is forecast.

Devon County Council, the Highways Agency, and Devon and Cornwall Police are advising drivers to check the weather forecast and road conditions before they set out.

Hazardous driving conditions on roads around Exeter

On the roads around Exeter, there are reports of flooding on the A377 at Cowley Hill, Cowley, near the St Andrew's Road junction.

Hazardous driving conditions have also been reported on the A380 Telegraph Hill in Ashcombe after the B3192 junction, because of ice, rain and reduction in visibility.

Devon and Cornwall Police are reminding motorists to ‘think safety’ before setting out on the roads during the winter months and to allow extra time for your journeys.

Road traffic accident causes delays on A38 at Kennford

Update: The A38 at Kennford has now cleared.

One lane closed is closed, with queueing traffic and hazardous driving conditions, on the A38 southbound in Kennford before the A379 junction. This is because of a multi-vehicle accident, ice, recovery work and visibility is reduced. Travel time is 30 minutes. Congestion is reported on the M5 to J31, A30 (Exminster).

Police concerned about missing Brixham woman

Update: Sally was found safe and well in the Paignton area at around 4pm on 22nd January 2013. Police are no longer concerned for her welfare.

Police are concerned about the welfare of a woman missing from the Brixham area since Monday morning (21st January 2013).

25-year-old Sally Gould went missing from her home address in Brixham at approximately 8.45am. She was last seen in King Street, possibly heading towards the town or Coast Path. The public may have seen Sally wearing her cream-coloured pyjamas at that time, however it is possible that she has since changed into...

Drivers urged to take care on icy roads after collision on A38

Update: The road has now reopened.

Earlier: One man involved in the earlier multi-vehicle road traffic accident on the A38 and has been taken to Derriford Hospital and is said to be in a critical condition.

There were a total of five collisions involving ten vehicles on the A38 Eastbound carriageway.

The A38 at The Parkway in Plymouth is still closed and slow traffic is queuing eastbound between Manadon Roundabout and Forder Valley Interchange, because of accident investigation work. Approach with care.

The road is expected to be closed until 1pm.
