Exeter residents dusting off their 'dancing' trainers for Cancer Research UK

Next Sunday, 30 brave participants from Exeter and beyond, will be dusting off their trainers and perfecting their shimmying at 'The Ultimate Danceathon' for Cancer Research UK. Three local instructors will be joining forces to deliver three hours of dance fitness. Included in the day will be the ever-popular 'Zumba', up-and-coming Bollywood fitness sensation 'Just Jhoom!', and 'Swagga Fit'; a fantastic new workout developed by the local 'Vibes Dance Company'!

'The Ultimate Danceathon' will be taking place at Active Fitness near Topsham, and places are still available for anyone...

Overbeck’s first Artist in Residence

Overbeck’s, the exotic garden perched high on the cliffs above Salcombe, has its first ever Artist in Residence – local illustrator Charlotte Atkinson.

Charlotte has set up her studio in a small outdoor building within the sheltered Banana Garden, home to some of Overbeck’s most tender tropic plants. She will be documenting a full year in the garden, from this summer to next, capturing and preserving the plants, flowers and vistas as they change through the seasons. These works will be exhibited at Overbeck’s for all to see.

Summer craft exhibition: Make a Mark

The Guild’s annual summer exhibition by its Membership features handling pieces, samples, sketches and background material alongside finished craft work. It aims to reveal the relationships between physical objects and the emotional journey or technical processes behind their making. The exhibition runs from 29 June - 1 September 2013.

There will be a launch party with music and buffet, 5-7pm on 28 June (£7/£10).

DIY gallery competition and free craft demos every Saturday from 29 June - 31 August.

Carsharedevon.com campaign attracts new members

Carsharedevon.com is moving ever closer to reaching the milestone of 10,000 members following its latest drive to get more people to cut costs and carbon emissions by sharing their car journeys.

Local floristry College, The Academy of Floral Art, has recently released their first book, published by David & Charles, called Chic & Unique Flower Arrangements .

Businesses increasing usage of temps says local recruitment expert

Employers in the South West are set to increase their numbers of temporary staff over the next six months of 2013, as many businesses turn to the expertise and knowledge of recruitment professionals to help them trade their way to recovery, according to one local figure.
