Exeter celebrates Armed Forces Day

Exeter city centre will be full of servicemen and women, past, present and future as it celebrates Armed Forces Day on Saturday (20 June).

As part of the city’s annual celebrations of the work of the Armed Forces, almost 400 servicemen and women from all branches of the armed forces will be marching through the City Centre with the Lord Mayor of Exeter (Cllr Olwen Foggin), the Vice Lieutenant of Devon (Sir John Cave) and the Deputy Commandant General Royal Marines (Brigadier Richard Spencer) taking the salute at the Guildhall.

A couple from Cullompton have enjoyed a ‘magical’ luxury wedding at a top Exeter hotel after winning an £8,000 package for their dream day.

Partnership encourages healthier lifestyle

Two local organisations, City Runs and EDP Drug & Alcohol Services (EDP), have announced an exciting partnership which aims to encourage healthier lifestyle choices.

EDP will become the charity partner for City Run’s upcoming summer races including the Run Exe Summer 5k Series and Exeter 10k on Wednesday 29th July.

Leading independent education recruitment specialist, Classpeople, warns of the impact on education created by over-sized classrooms following a statistical report by the Department for Education.

The report outlines a 2.1% increase in the number of children in state funded primary schools.

Exeter School Art Department is hosting the annual WESC Art exhibition in the Art Gallery.

The Private View took place on Monday evening and was attended by special guest, Barrie Goodfellow, a local visually impaired artist who has been working with the pupils this year.

Commuter gripes could be solved by Bike Week

As part of its preparations for Bike Week 2015 (running 13 – 21 June), the national cycling charity, CTC has found that almost half of Britain’s commuters live within an ‘easily cycle-able’ distance from their place of work (0-5 miles away).

If they aren’t already enjoying a ride to work, CTC’s survey responses suggest that millions of more commuters would feel much better for making the switch to cycling.
