More Government funding needed to deal with flooding legacy in Devon

The impact of last year’s major flooding in Devon will be felt for the next four years, Devon County Council’s Cabinet heard today (Wed 9 Oct) as further calls were made for additional Government funding for roads.

Councillors have agreed proposals to deal with the legacy left by the major flood events in 2012/13, in which Devon’s highways sustained almost £18 million of damage.

Cranbrook’s first community building opening soon

The first community building in Cranbrook is now complete and the asset has been handed over to East Devon District Council which intends to open the doors to the Younghayes Centre in time for the community’s Hallowe’en pumpkin party.

Exeter accountants cover 115 miles in charity relay ride

Keen cyclists from chartered accountants Francis Clark took to their bikes to raise money for charity by riding a relay across Devon and Cornwall.

Three teams made up of staff from the Exeter, Plymouth, Taunton, Torquay and Truro offices of the South West leading accountancy firm Francis Clark completed a gruelling relay cycling from Truro to Exeter to raise a total of £1,475 for four different charities.

Devon and Cornwall Police have taken to Twitter to thank both sets of supporters from Saturday’s local derby clash between Exeter City and Plymouth Argyle at St James Park for their part in a day that they have described as ‘largely peaceful’.

The Police were on high-alert throughout the build up to Saturday’s game deploying six police support units, four horses, a dog support unit and air support.
