Devon braced for wild weather as storm heads our way

Devon residents were tonight bracing themselves for a ferocious storm which experts warn could leave a trail of destruction across the county. Motorists are being told to expect atrocious driving conditions in the morning and today ferry services were cancelled due to the adverse conditions. Heavy rain has been falling since around 8pm and is only expected to intensify as the weather front sweeps in. Forecasters say the storm could be the worst since 1987 when 17 people died. Champion jockey opens bar named in his honour at Exeter Racecourse

Champion jockey AP McCoy has said he is ‘delighted’ that Exeter Racecourse, where he rode his first ever winner on English soil in 1994, has renamed one of its bars AP’s, which he officially opened at a race meeting there on Tuesday.

The 18-times champion jockey and 2010 Sports Personality of the Year winner booted home Chickabiddy, who was trained locally on Exmoor by Gordon Edwards, to win some 19 years ago on September 7. The champion is now 20 winners away (correct Oct 24) from achieving a record breaking 4,000 winners under Rules.

Jean-Phillippe Bidart, head chef at the Millbrook Inn in South Pool, will this Saturday be demonstrating how to cook an assiette of rose veal at the Dartmouth Food Festival. Winding up for a busy winter at Knightshayes

Exeter Soccer Sixes start their brand new season on Wednesday 6 November at St Luke's Science and Sports College in Exeter.

Their six-a-side outdoor league runs every Wednesday between 8pm and 10pm and they are are looking for new teams to join them for the forthcoming season.

Teams can be made up from work colleagues, friends and family, drinking buddies or even from your 11-a-side Saturday or Sunday teams.

All their leagues are FA affiliated and have FA qualified referees and it’s free to join Soccer Sixes.

Update 24 October: Police report that Exeter man Robert Salter, who was last seen at around 1pm on Friday 11 October, is still missing. He is also known to have links in the Exmouth area. If you have seen him, please get in touch with the Police on 101 and quote log 267 of 11 October.

Exeter Students Competing in Npower's Future Leaders Challenge

A group of Exeter University students are taking part in the prestigious Npower’s future leaders challenge, which sees those teams involved setting up a project to promote sustainable living in their local community.

The successful team will win a trip to the Brazilian Amazon, spending 10 days helping tribes people set up solar panels.
