Sure Languages, based in central Exeter is celebrating ten successful years in business this month. The idea for Sure Languages was conceived in 2006 by co-founders Paul Bickham and Francesca Hill. The eagerly anticipated second TEDxTruro event will take place on Friday, 27 October at Truro & Penwith College’s Truro campus. Building on the success of last year’s inaugural event, the theme for 2017 is ‘Beyond Barriers’.

Huge permafrost thaw can be limited by ambitious climate targets

Global warming will thaw about 20% more permafrost than previously thought, scientists have warned – potentially releasing significant amounts of greenhouse gases into the Earth’s atmosphere.

A new international research study, including climate change experts from the University of Leeds, University of Exeter and the Met Office, reveals that permafrost is more sensitive to the effects of global warming than previously thought.

Citizens Advice Exeter concerned over rise in welfare benefit enquiries

Leading local advice charity, Citizens Advice Exeter, has released its latest advice trend statistics.

In the period 1 April 2016 – 28 February 2017 the charity helped 7267 people directly with advice and information. The advice trends over the period were as follows:

Welfare benefits Overall, the charity dealt with 10.3% more welfare benefit enquiries. The main increases being:

• 20.7% increase about disability benefits (PIP/DLA) • 12.4% increase about employment and support allowance • 2.6% increase about attendance allowance

Police appeal after Kingsteignton hit and run

Police are urgently appealing for witnesses to a serious road traffic collision in Kingsteignton on Saturday 8th April in which a pedestrian received life threatening injuries having been struck by a vehicle which left the scene.

The collision happened in Gestridge Road at around 12.50am when a 25 year old man from Kingsteignton was struck by a small silver car, possibly a darker colour, which was traveling in the direction of Fore Street.

Back by popular demand Topsham Rugby Club will be hosting their Car Boot Sale on the Bank Holidays this summer (Monday 1st May, Monday 29th May and Monday 28th August) from 9:30 am to 1pm.

Public on foot - free entrance. We would welcome a £1 donation for parking.

Sellers will be welcome to set up at 8am with fees £6 per car and small vans, larger vehicles and trailers at £10 each.

The clubhouse will be open with hot food and drinks available all morning and the Bar will also be open towards lunchtime, with guest ales and longstanding favourites on offer.
