Volunteers needed to help blind community in Devon

A national charity is appealing for volunteers to come forward and help the blind people it supports in the Exeter and Plymouth areas.

British Wireless for the Blind Fund (BWBF) provides specially adapted audio equipment to visually impaired people across the UK.

The charity is looking for radio support volunteers, whose role would be to visit people with sight loss in their homes throughout Exeter and Plymouth, install their new radio and teach them how to use it as well as provide on-going support where needed.

Walk 10 miles in aid of the Exeter Foundation before enjoying not one, but two Exeter Chiefs pre-season games!

Sponsored by South West Communications, Northcott Beaton, Santander and The Land Rover Experience, The Big Walk starts and finishes at the Sandy Park, and takes in a flat, scenic route through the River Exe Valley.

Entry is £25 per person, or team entry is £100, which includes a t-shirt, drink and famous Sandy Park pasty – plus a ticket for the Exeter Chiefs pre-season double header against Cornish Pirates and Newport Gwent Dragons.

A body has been found in the search for missing 24-year-old Dex Johnston.

Police search teams located the body of a man in Exeter Quay this afternoon (1 June).

In a statement Devon and Cornwall Police said: "At approximately 1:40pm today (1st June), police search teams located the body of a man in Exeter Quay.

“Cordons are in place in the area as recovery continues. Whilst at this time we are not in a position to confirm the identity of the body, the family of missing 24-year-old Exeter man Dex Johnston have been informed of this development.”

John Lewis Exeter donates £1,251 to CHSW

As part of John Lewis’ Community Matters charity campaign, Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) was delighted to receive a cheque from the Exeter store for £1251.

Awe and amazement at the thousands of miles travelled by little Reed Warbler

Thanks to a tiny ring on its leg, a Reed Warbler caught by the Axe Estuary Ringing Group on the East Devon District Council Nature Reserve last week, revealed it has travelled to Africa and back at least nine times!

A sporting challenge led by the world's greatest sailor is being cheered on with special reason by an Exeter accountancy firm.

The qualifiers for the 35th America’s Cup are now underway in Bermuda and, if all goes to plan, four times’ Olympic gold medallist Sir Ben Ainslie could be lifting the trophy in late June.
