Budleigh Salterton Male Voice Choir are delighted that they will be performing at Exeter Cathedral on 5th August at 7.30pm in support of Devon Air Ambulance, who are celebration 25 years of service.

The concert will feature the Choir directed by Michael Graham, together with their special guests  Tim Mirfin, Bass and Iryna Ilnytska - Mezzo Soprano.   Both guests have appeared in concerts and opera around the UK and overseas.

In addition David Davies, well known as previous organist at the cathedral will be playing.  The choir will sing a mixture of popular and traditional songs from their wide repertoire.

Founded in 1974 with about 60 members, the choir perform on average about 10 times a year, mostly for the benefit of local and national charities raising thousands of pounds each year.

Most concerts are in the East Devon / Exeter area, although occasionally they do venture further afield.  For example every two years they have sung in the Cornwall International Male Voice Festival at Truro.  In addition they often participate in joint concerts with other choirs and musical groups, including recently the SW Comms Band, Worcester MVC and Barnstaple MVC.  In previous years they have visited Wales, Yorkshire, Dorset and Kent.  Their repertoire is not restricted to traditional male voice choir items and included in each programme are number of more popular songs to lighten the repertoire and appeal to a wider audience.

Michael Graham is a Lay-Clerk at Exeter Cathedral and Director of Chapel Music at Exeter University. He trained at the Junior Royal Northern College of Music, and was subsequently awarded an organ scholarship at Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral, before coming to Exeter. He is an accomplished organist and tenor singer and is in demand as a soloist..  Michael joined  BSMVC in September 2013, and with his dynamic style and contagious enthusiasm is inspiring the choir to new heights.

The Choir's Publicity Officer, John Sanders said:  "The Choir is looking forward to singing in Exeter Cathedral, one of the most prestigious venues for our concerts, while raising funds for Devon Air Ambulance.   We are delighted to be joined by our superb guest soloists, Tim Mirfin (Bass)and Iryna Ilnytska (Mezzo Soprano) and David Davies playing the organ.. This will be a fantastic musical extravaganza not to be missed."
