A Devon author is celebrating after securing a three-book deal with Harper Collins HQ for her young adult fiction series, Book of Fire. Michelle Kenney, who lives in Devon, released her first book on Friday 25 August and has already featured in Amazon’s top 10 list for the young adult (YA) genre. To celebrate the 35th anniversary of local charity Hospiscare, Dr Becky Baines, Hospiscare’s Medical Director is getting out of her comfort zone and is asking if at least 35 local people will join her.
Becky has bravely signed up for the Great West Run on 15th Oct 2017, a 13.1 mile run through the heart of Exeter. It’s a brave move because the only other race Becky has previously completed was back in 2015, when she took part in a 10K just to prove to herself she could do it.

Exeter Philharmonic Choir, which has just celebrated its 170th season, is delighted to announce that Howard Ionascu will become its new Director of Music in September, marking a new era in the choir’s long history.
Howard Ionascu has been with the Royal Academy of Music for the last four years, where he is Director of the Junior Academy. Seventeen-years-old is the age when our creativity peaks, according to a survey out today by BIC®, the leading stationery brand in Europe , similarly those in Plymouth think that their creativity also peaks at 17-years-old. After this, British adults let their creativity die with a staggering 63% of over 30s claiming their talents have fallen by the wayside.

Exeter School is delighted to announce an exciting development in its participation in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.
As of September, pupils will be able to carry out their Gold Award expedition by sea kayak.
Duke of Edinburgh Manager Mark Schramm said sea kayaking would provide an alternative to the usual walking expeditions.
"This will involve canoe and kayak training at Haven Banks, a practice expedition on the Devon or Cornwall coast and a qualifying expedition in the Isle of Skye area," he said.

A man who died following a collision on the A38 on the outskirts of Exeter has been named.
Daniel Harrison, aged 36 from Exmouth was involved single vehicle collision on the A380 Telegraph Hill, Kenford.
Mr Harrison was riding a blue Honda motorcycle when at around 6:35pm on Wednesday 30 August, he was involved in a single vehicle collision.
He was treated at the scene before being taken by Ambulance to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital where shortly after arrival he was pronounced deceased.
