LETTER TO EDITOR I am writing to ask all readers in Exeter to join us this October for the UK’s biggest pink fundraiser, wear it pink. Wear it pink, Breast Cancer Now’s flagship fundraiser, takes place on Friday 20 October during Breast Cancer Awareness Month to raise money for life-saving breast cancer research.

To get involved, all you have to do is ditch your everyday colours and pull on some pink and fundraise to help Breast Cancer Now achieve its aim that by 2050 everyone who develops breast cancer will live.

Lack of brisk walking puts Devon adults at risk

Findings from Public Health England (PHE) warn that thousands of adults aged 40-60 living in Devon are putting their health at risk by not managing a brisk ten minute walk each month.

As part of their new One You physical activity campaign, Public Health England have launched their new free Active 10 app encouraging adults to take one brisk ten minute walk a day. According to PHE research, this reduces the risk of early death by 15%, and contributes to their wider physical activity guidance of 150 minutes of moderate-vigorous exercise each week.

University of Exeter gardener honoured by Queen will be sorely missed

Tributes have been paid to a well-loved and highly respected former University of Exeter gardener Gordon Newton MBE, who has passed away at the age of 71.

Cycle September events at Cranbrook

Free guided cycle rides and bike hire will be offered in Cranbrook as part of Devon County Council’s Cycle September campaign.

Throughout September, the County Council will be promoting cycling and encouraging more people to cycle more often. The South West of England is home to some of Brits' ultimate “happy places”, according to a new study.

New research from SACO, The Serviced Apartment Company polled UK holidaymakers to discover the places in the UK which evoke special memories and ultimately make us “happy”.

The poll of 1,500 British adults revealed that Cornwall is our top ‘go-to’ holiday destination for making happy memories, voted for by almost one in five Brits. The Lake District was in second place, with Devon also featuring in the top three.

Research reveals how altered brain networks can lead to seizures, offering new treatment strategies for epilepsy

An international team of scientists, led by mathematicians from the University of Exeter’s Living Systems Institute, have developed a ground-breaking new method that can identify regions of brain tissue most likely to generate seizures in people with epilepsy.

The innovative new method, which utilizes mathematical modelling, offers the potential to complement existing clinical approaches and could lead to enhanced surgical outcomes.

Outstanding GCSE results for Exeter School

Exeter School pupils, parents and staff are delighted with this year's set of consistently high GCSE results.

81% of all grades were A* or A and 50.4% were A*. Seventy pupils scored 8 or more A*/A grades with 41 registering 10 or more A*/A grades.

Blundell's School is delighted to announce another set of excellent GCSE results, which once again exceed the national average despite the recent climate of changing educational pressures. Fourth place in World Rowing Junior Championships for Exeter School pupil

Exeter School Sixth Former Phoebe Campbell has taken fourth place in the World Rowing Junior Championships.

The Upper Sixth Former represented the GB Rowing Team at the 2017 World Rowing Junior Championships held in Trakai, Lithuania in August. The crew trained together at Pangbourne and Caversham before flying out to Lithuania three days before the competition.
