Two West Exe teams in finals of £25,000 tech prize for young people

An app that simplifies text for students with dyslexia and learning difficulties and a robot friend for those with anxiety and autism are just two of the final ideas in the running to win the £25,000 Longitude Explorer Prize.

The prize calls on the UK’s young people to put their ingenuity and entrepreneurial spirit to the test and use technology – such as artificial intelligence (AI) – for social good. They have been challenged to create and develop solutions to some of the world’s biggest issues, including climate change, living healthier lives, and an ageing population.

Two thousand people across Devon and the UK visited their local repair café earlier this month to have a record 2,253 broken items fixed at the largest event of its kind ever held.

Coordinated by Devon County Council, the Big Fix 2020 saw 66 Repair Cafes across the UK run simultaneous events on Saturday February 15, with a single mission – to repair as much as possible.

Exeter City's matches postponed by EFL due to coronavirus

All professional football in England has been suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Exeter City's matches against Salford City (March 14), Scunthorpe United (March 17), Plymouth Argyle (March 23) and Bradford City (March 28) have been postponed following the the announcement this morning that all matches in the EFL have been postponed until April 3 at the earliest.

Famous litter pickers and environmentalists The Wombles will be visiting Exeter next week to take part in The Great British Spring Clean.

LGBTQ+ heritage of museum collections to be revealed and celebrated as part of major new project

LGBTQ+ heritage embedded in the rich collections at Exeter’s Royal Albert Memorial Museum & Art Gallery (RAMM) will be revealed and celebrated as part of a major new collaboration, funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer history can be found in the museum’s collections in areas such as zoology, anthropology, fine art, and local and overseas archaeology, but it is not visible at the moment.

A survey of tech companies across the South West has revealed that artificial intelligence is the most widely anticipated business tech trend of 2020.
