Desperate plea to moor visitors to help halt the spread of strangles

Visitors to Dartmoor are being urged to stay away from its native ponies to help stop the spread of a vicious new strain of strangles.

Ponies are already suffering from the highly contagious infection, and now the Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust is putting a firewall around the 450 hectare site it leases from Forestry England at Bellever to try and protect its herd of 27 ponies. It hopes this will prevent the infection from spreading further to other herds on the moors.

1,917 mile solo sail around the UK raises over £4,000 for charity

70 year old Derek Hathaway from Exeter has realised his personal challenge to sail solo around the coast of Britain – and including gift aid, raised £4,141.25 for local charity Rainbow Living.

Originally due to depart April 2020, Derek’s plans were put on hold when the UK went into lockdown but with the easing of restrictions earlier this year, he finally set sail on the 20th April.

Kate revs up for charity motorbike challenge

A breast cancer survivor from Exeter set out this week to ride her motorbike around Great Britain for a local charity.

Mum-of-two Kate West will ride her 600cc Honda up to 4,000 miles over four weeks in aid of FORCE Cancer Charity.

“FORCE have been part of my life for many years now, helping me and some very close friends and family cope with cancer diagnoses, both of their own and loved ones, both treatable and terminal,” said Kate.

New Aldi in Pinhoe celebrates opening its doors

A brand new Aldi store in Pinhoe opened its doors to customers on Thursday morning (29 July).

The new Exhibition Way store is the third Aldi to open in and around Pinhoe, and will be run by Store Manager Mitchell Allen, along with a team of 25 colleagues from the local community.

Jurassic Fibre connects Greendale mass vaccination centre in ultrafast turnaround

Jurassic Fibre recently completed its installation for the new COVID-19 mass vaccination centre at Greendale Business Park.

The Exeter-based internet service provider worked closely with Greendale to provide its full fibre broadband to the site at short notice.

Apple Mac Museum opens at Exeter College

Exeter School of Art student Sophie Bruce and her team have created what is believed to be the only exhibition celebrating the history of the Apple Mac in the UK.
