New house building site in Exeter

An Exeter housebuilder has revealed plans to launch a new local site within the next 12 months. David Wilson Homes claim that the site for 40 houses will provide around 80 new jobs in building and sales, mostly for local tradesmen and sub-contractors.

"The Prime Minister has said again and again that one of the best ways to boost economic growth and get people working is through building more homes," said Louise Ware, sales director for David Wilson Homes.

£500 reward to find phone shop thieves

The Carphone Warehouse in Tiverton has offered a £500 reward for information after a large number of phones were taken during a burglary last week.

The store in Tiverton’s Fore Street, was targeted by thieves in the early hours of Thursday 23 January 2014.

The thieves broke into an empty property above the shop and before breaking through the floor into offices below.

Carphone Warehouse is offering the reward for information that leads to the conviction of those responsible for the theft of the phones, worth £3,500.

Motorists in Exeter can now pay for parking by phone, the City Council has announced.

New PayByPhone technology allows anyone using Exeter City Council's 23 pay and display car parks to pay for their ticket by phone.

The City Council wanted a parking payment solution that gave motorists the flexibility to pay by phone and charge parking to their credit or debit card, instead of being constrained by the amount of change they had in their pockets or handbag.

Average Exeter debt rises by over £1,000

The average level of debt among clients of Exeter Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) has risen by over £1,000 according to figures released by the local charity today.

The average clients’ debt now stands at £13,450 up by £1,091 on the previous year.

Some commentators have warned that high levels of personal debt in Britain may bring problems in later life with new research from Bristol University showing a strong link between financial problems and poor mental well-being in older people.

Lunch with a view for city professionals

Around 22 members of the Gilbert Stephens Lunch Club enjoyed a two-course luncheon at Côte Brasserie, enjoying a spectacular view over a sun-drenched Cathedral Green.

This was the biggest turnout to date for the bi-monthly event, which is organised by the Devon-based law firm and held at various venues in and around Exeter. The informal networking lunch brings together professionals from around the city.

Topping Out at Exwick

Cornerstone celebrated reaching roof stage on their latest affordable housing development on Friday.

The development, at Ennerdale Way in Exwick, comprises four one bed and five two bed flats at affordable rents for local people registered on Devon Home Choice.

The topping out was celebrated on the roof with bubbly and doughnuts.

The development is expected to be completed in April 2014 and has been made possible with grant funding from the Homes & Communities Agency.
