Skydive for charity and be a record breaker

In June next year, 333 fundraisers will jump from 15,000 feet to break the Guinness World Record.

Skydive UK Ltd is one of the biggest skydiving schools in the UK. They have started a search for over 300 brave fundraisers who will skydive for charity and attempt to break the existing record.

The current Guinness World Record for the most tandem skydives within 24 hours is 281 and is also held by Skydive UK.

“We know we can do more. We will prove this by breaking our own record, aiming for 333,” said Jason Farrant, managing director of Skydive UK.

Pedestrian dies after collision in Ottery

Police are appealing for witnesses and information after a fatal road traffic collision on the B3180 near Daisy Mount, Ottery St Mary last night (Monday 24 November).

The incident happened shortly before 10pm on Monday when a blue Ford Mondeo car was involved in a collision with a male pedestrian outside of the West Hill Nursery.

The pedestrian, a 42-year-old local man, died at the scene following the collision.

He is believed to have been walking along the road at the time of the incident.

National firm supports Exeter nature reserve

An award winning national property company has added its support to one of Exeter’s most precious havens for wildlife.

The company, Renaissance Villages, has generously donated £1,500 to leading local conservation charity Devon Wildlife Trust to help with the vital upkeep of its Old Sludge Beds nature reserve. The reserve occupies wildlife rich reed beds, woodland and ponds on the banks of the River Exe close to the city’s Countess Weir Swing Bridge.

Councils announce closer collaboration

Three Devon councils have announced that they will be working more collaboratively to drive forward economic growth.

Exeter City Council, Teignbridge District Council and East Devon District Council today (Monday 24 November) signed an agreement that paves the way for joined-up decision making on planning, housing, resources and infrastructure.

Former Exeter Chiefs rugby player Chris Whitehead has been named as guest speaker at Teignbridge District Council’s Sports Personality of the Year Awards 2014.

A drop-in information day will be held on Thursday 27 November in Seaton Town Hall for people to find out more about Seaton Jurassic, the new visitor attraction for the Jurassic Coast.

SWH Build hosts site visit from Teignmouth College

Last month SWH's Nick Ford and his Build team at the Broadmeadow Employment Unit site, Teignmouth kindly took the time to show around 15 students from Teignmouth College.

SWH Build is currently constructing a three-steel frame industrial units at the Broadmeadow site, which is divided into 11 self-contained units.

Works are on-going and currently involve carpentry, mechanical and electrical works. Ground works include drainage services, road construction and tarmac to roads and metal studwork and plaster boarding.
