Exeter City Council and the National Landlords Association (NLA) invite landlords in Exeter and the surrounding areas to its next branch meeting on Wednesday 4 February to help prepare for risks that threaten the success of their lettings business.

Hannah Darling, NLA representative, will discuss how the NLA’s latest campaign, Rent Risk Resolve can help mitigate against the risks of rent arrears, rising interest rates, local licensing activity and the potential introduction of rent control, in order to ensure a happy and successful lettings business.

The Lord Mayor's chosen charity, Exeter Leukaemia Fund, will be hosting a Wedding Fayre in the historic Guildhall.

Meet a range of local wedding suppliers dedicated to making your special day perfect. The Lord Mayor's Charity Wedding Fayre will take place on Sunday 22 March 2015 from 10.00am to 4.00pm, in aid of the Lord Mayor's Charity. This event is free to the public.

£45m funding unlocked for superfast broadband

Connecting Devon and Somerset has confirmed extra funding has been raised for its superfast broadband programme, bringing the total to around £45 million.

Previously the programme had secured £38 million after local contributions were matched with Government funding.

Would-be MP welcomes Growth Deal funding

Dom Morris has welcomed the announcement of additional funding to support businesses and infrastructure in Exeter – helping to create jobs and support businesses. Heart of the South West, the Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) for Exeter and the local area, has been allocated an additional £65.2 million. Murder investigation launched in Dawlish

Police have launched a murder investigation following the discovery of a 36-year-old woman’s body in Dawlish this morning (Thursday 29 January).

Police were called at around 6.40pm yesterday (Wednesday 28 January) following reports of a missing person, and an extensive search was undertaken by specialist officers and volunteer search and rescue groups.

A body was later discovered at a property in Iddesleigh Terrace, Dawlish at around 3am today.

Wild beavers to stay in East Devon

England’s only breeding population of wild beavers look to have a brighter future after an announcement made today. Devon Wildlife Trust is hailing the decision by Natural England to grant the charity a five year licence to monitor the beavers as a key moment in the history of modern conservation. The charity is welcoming the positive news after spending months of hard work trying to secure a long term future for the animals. The beavers, which live on the River Otter in East Devon, were first discovered to be breeding in February 2014.

South West foodies voted in their thousands for their regional favourites and on Monday night the winners were crowned at a fabulous ceremony.

Yeo Valley’s quirky headquarters in Blagdon, Somerset, played host to the cream of the South West’s food and drink industry, coming together for the Food Reader Awards presentation and dinner.

Over 9,000 Food Magazine and Food Insider’s Guide readers cast 40,000 votes for 150 businesses in the fourth year of the awards.

Woodburn wings in at the Chiefs

Exeter Chiefs have strengthened their back-three options ahead of the 2015/16 season with the capture of Olly Woodburn from Aviva Premiership rivals Bath Rugby.

The 23-year-old back is one of two new arrivals confirmed by head coach Rob Baxter today, joining England and British Lions lock Geoff Parling in agreeing terms on a two-year deal with the Sandy Park outfit.
