Schools celebrate healthy eating week

To mark British Nutrition Foundation Healthy Eating Week (13–17 June 2016), schools across Devon are celebrating the results of the Food for Life programme.

The programme brings schools, early years settings, hospitals and care homes together with their communities around the core ethos of healthy, tasty and sustainable food.

Exeter to host South West's first LEGO show

A one day show of LEGO creations is coming to the city centre's Exeter Phoenix on Saturday 30 July.

West Country Brick Show promises an imaginative family day out in the school summer holidays.

The show organisers, 'West Country Bricks' are made up of LEGO fan builders and traders who will be proudly displaying their impressive creations and wealth of LEGO building expertise.

The event will feature large model replicas from history and science fiction, including a giant Star Wars mosaic. There is also a rare opportunity to see a vintage display of a 1960's town...

Four serving or retired members of staff and representatives from Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service have been honoured in the Queen’s Birthday Honours. Former Station Manager Rob Carlson receives an OBE for Services to Road Safety, Fire Authority Chairman Cllr Mark Healey and former Group Manager Loz Adams receive MBEs and Alan White a BEM. 29 million days of work lost each year to hay fever

Severe hay fever costs the UK 29 million days of work each year, according to a new survey from the Met Office.

The research found that more than one in ten (11%) UK adults of working age suffer from hay fever to the extent that it stop them going into work, causing them to miss an average of 8.4 working days per year.

In total, the Met Office survey found 41 per cent of UK adults of working age say they suffer from hay fever to some extent. Amongst this group, 11.2 working days a year are impacted by it, with respondents estimating their productivity drops by an average of...

Man badly hurt in suspected hit and run

A man has been left with serious injures following a suspected hit and run in Bradninch.

Police were called to reports of an injured man in the middle of West End Road just after 11.30pm on Saturday (11 June).

The 53-year-old local man was found in the road with injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle

The type of vehicle involved remains unknown.

The collision is believed to have occurred in the hours of darkness and weather and road conditions were good although they deteriorated during time at the scene.

Rootin’ Tootin’ Fun at Exeter 7s

Saddle up for a rootin’ tootin’ day of fun when Sandy Park hosts the Mitsubishi Motors Exeter 7s this summer.

Fans are invited to wear their best Wild West outfits and give the players a traditional Chiefs welcome, with a twist.

Exeter’s posse will be headed up by Chiefs head of commercial John (Toy Story) Woody Wood and his glamorous assistant Christine (The Kid) Bentos Bentley.

Exhibition of Indian botanical illustrations at RAMM

Exquisite early 19th-century illustrations of Indian flora are the focus of the latest exhibition in the Naturally Inspired season of botanicals, gardens and landscapes at Exeter’s Royal Albert Memorial Museum (RAMM).

In the late 18th and early 19th centuries the East India Company controlled much of the Indian subcontinent. Keen to exploit and export valuable natural commodities, the company set out to record the flora of India and commissioned Indian artists to create detailed botanical illustrations.

Exeter cycle network approved

The principle of an integrated Exeter cycle network, linking up schools, new developments, the university, the Exeter and East Devon Growth point, and the city centre has been approved.

Devon County Council’s cabinet has given the greenlight to progressing plans for a series of high quality, multi-use routes around the city for use by residents, commuters, students and visitors.

Priority will be given to two multi-use trails - both linking Redhayes Bridge, which crosses the M5 near Junction 29, to the city centre, but serving different purposes.
