All aboard - a new initiative to support Devon’s Young Carers

Devon Young Carers at Westbank has launched a new initiative to support young people who care for family members. Called the Young Carers Movement Group, it gives young carers a platform to share their views on the support service provided by Westbank Community Health and Care, as well as suggest improvements, and highlight additional support young carers would like to see in the future. The new group also provides a safe space to talk openly about the challenges and experiences of growing up as a young carer.

New 'Map your log pile' survey launched by wildlife charity this June

This June, wildlife charity People's Trust for Endangered Species (PTES) has launched a brand-new garden survey, 'Map your log pile', to help save endangered stag beetles and other wildlife.

PTES is asking anyone with a garden or access to a local green space - including school playgrounds, church yards, parks, allotments and traditional orchards - to create a log pile (or pyramid) for stag beetles and other invertebrates, and record their location online. Devonshire Homes continues to support disadvantaged young people with £2,900 donation

West Country house builder Devonshire Homes has donated a further £2,900 to the William Wates Memorial Trust.

Following its donation of £1,000 back in January, this second donation from Devonshire Homes comes as the property market continues to boom. The vital funds have been raised through Devonshire Homes’ open-market sales where £50 is donated to the Trust for every sale.

The British Horse Society (BHS) are calling for horse riders in Devon to saddle up and take part in a unique fundraising challenge. The “Olympic Rideathon” aims to clock up enough miles to get from Topsham to Tokyo, raising money for safe off-road riding routes for Devon’s equestrians.

Walkers and farmers warned of livestock danger

AN agricultural expert is warning South West walkers and farmers to stay vigilant in the vicinity of livestock and their young this summer, to avoid endangering lives and jeopardising livelihoods.

Charlie Higson, of rural insurance broker Lycetts, is urging the public and farmers to take steps to protect themselves, ramblers and livestock, as the trend for countryside walking sets to continue post-lockdown.

Exeter Leisure, which is part of Exeter City Council, has launched a number of innovative ways to get people in Exeter fitter than ever before.

Exeter firefighter Tom chosen for campaign to boost Public Service Day

Firefighter Tom Taylor has been chosen to help promote Public Service Day on Wednesday 23 June – after raising thousands of pounds for the NHS through his Frontline Coffee charity.

The day, officially launched by the United Nations as long ago as 2003, has barely been recognised in the UK until two years ago, when public sector and civil service membership club Boundless took up the cause.

Devon based pro cyclist Freddie Scheske will be hoping to make his Tour of Britain debut later this year after the first teams were confirmed for the 2021 edition of the race.

The University of Exeter student rides for Ribble Weldtite Pro Cycling , which will also be competing at The Tour for the first time in September (5-12 September).
