New speech and language courses to help young children catch up after COVID-19

Research conducted in schools last year revealed that the coronavirus pandemic, with its lockdowns and restrictions, held back many young children's speech and language development.

So, Devon County Council has created new courses which are available to parents and carers, and staff who work with children and young people, to help children catch up and reach their potential.

Charity launches new financial support project

HOMELESS charity, Community Housing Aid, has secured funding to help vulnerable people resolve financial and housing issues.

The new project, entitled What Works 4 You, will target offenders, ex-offenders and young people aged between 16-25.

It has been funded by a grant of £80,482 from the Money Advice Service and will operate from Community Housing Aid’s office at Co-Lab, Wat Tyler House, in Exeter.

Thanks to its generous donors, the Sir Francis Chichester Trust has 30 fully funded places, worth up to £1,699 each, available to young people from Devon, including Plymouth and Torbay, to attend a life changing 19-day Outward Bound Skills for Life Award this summer.

More young people at risk of heart attack than previously thought

A new study has found that twice as many people than previously thought may be living with genetic condition that can cause a deadly heart attack at a young age.

Research, published in the journal Circulation, looked at 37,000 people from the US and found that Familial Hypercholesterolemia (FH) prevalence should be one in 250 rather than the previous estimate of one in 500.
