Mud walk event along the Exe

Dig out your wellies for a fact-finding mud walk along the Exe Estuary led by East Devon District Council’s Countryside Rangers on Saturday June 20.

You’ll discover all about the creatures that make their homes in and on the mud and, what’s more, the event is free and open to all.

Education Ranger Penny Evans said: “We will be searching for shells, digging for worms and fishing in the creek to see what we can find there – it’s great fun for all ages.

She added: “Wear wellies or old shoes that you don’t mind getting wet, and suitable outdoor clothing.”

Bird walk off to a flying start

East Devon District Council's Countryside team would like to thank County Bird Recorder Steve Waite for leading an extremely interesting and informative Dawn Chorus Walk at Seaton Wetlands on Saturday 18 April.

A cold easterly wind failed to deter 24 keen individuals from enjoying this special walk, which began at 5.30am at Black Hole Marsh. The event got off to a flying start, as within ten minutes the group had a close view of a barn owl, while from the car park, wood pigeon, collared dove, blackbird, robin, blackcap and chiffchaff could all be heard.

A well earned pint and a pasty

Cheers! Walkers taking part in Hospiscare's FUGBY12 men's walk were rewarded with a much needed pint and a pasty.

Main sponsor Roger Wilkinson, of Wilkinson Grant, gave a stirring speech sending hundreds of walkers on their way from St James Park Football club, through the player's tunnel and around the pitch, before heading over to Mincinglake Valley Park and back to twatch the rugby where they enjoyed pints and pasties courtesy of St Austell Brewery and Chunk Pies. Thanks also to Exeter FC for its support.

Hospiscare men's walk this Saturday

Hospiscare's men's walk, the FUGBY12, takes place this Saturday and you can still take part.

If you want to join hundreds of other men setting off from St James Park football club in Exeter then turn up between 12.15pm and 1.15pm for a 1.30pm start for the seven mile walk around Mincinglake Valley Park.

Afterwards you'll get a free pasty and a pint and you can relax at the club by watching the Six Nations rugby match or catching up on the footie scores.

The Hospiscare FUGBY mascot, pictured, will be there. Wilkinson Grant is sponsoring the event.

Exeter footie and rugby fans are being urged to join an exciting new men’s walk – The FUGBY12.

Join the 12 mile sponsored walk from Exeter City Football Club and relax with a free pint and a pasty to watch the Six Nations rugby afterwards or some footie action.

The FUGBY12 is the new name for the Hospiscare Men’s Walk and for the first time it will be starting and finishing from Exeter City's St James Park on Saturday March 21.
