The future redevelopment of Teignmouth’s Carlton Theatre site is back under the spotlight at a series of community workshops.

Teignbridge District Council has issued a call for residents and other groups looking for a place to meet to get involved with the design of a building fit for the 21st Century.

Teignbridge is keen to meet with anyone interested in the theatre’s future so they can hear all the ideas and aspirations.

The workshops will be held on Tuesday 2 July, starting at 4pm.

Teignbridge supports Falls Awareness Week

Teignbridge residents are encouraged to share their personal stories at a new awareness event aimed at the dangers of slips, trips and falls in the home.

Those who have suffered an injury in their own home - or know someone who has - are invited to attend the story sharing event to highlight the problem to others and help find a solution.

South West Water's extra investment programme to be funded from efficiency savings

South West Water today (Thursday 23 May) announced an extra investment programme to protect bathing water quality at key tourist beaches, maintain nearly six million metres of sewers and help customers in the most need. This investment will be funded from efficiency savings in the company's current five year programme and will not impact on average household bills which will fall in 2013/14 following the Government's £50 reduction implemented in April.

Council expands innovative project to help residents affected by welfare reform

An innovative scheme developed by Devon County Council to support residents affected by the government welfare reforms is being extended.

Delivered by the Council’s Library Service, the pioneering ‘Free Fridays’ scheme has been piloted in three towns across Devon and has proved so successful it is now being expanded to include a further eight.

Police appeal for witnesses after attempted robbery in Teignmouth

Police are hunting for a masked offender who threatened two shop assistants with a knife during an attempted robbery in Teignmouth. The man struck at Tesco in Bitton Park Road around 11.50pm on Sunday (21 April) as staff members were closing the store. A female member of staff was disposing of empty packaging at the back of the store when she was approached by the offender who was carrying a knife. Police appeal for help following spate of shoplifting offences in Devon

Police are appealing to the public for help following a string of shoplifting offences in Devon. The four offences, which police believe involve the same men, occurred on the same day, 1 February, at shops in Exmouth, Teignmouth, Paignton and Torquay. At the Co-op in Dartmouth Road, Paignton at noon two men entered the rear of the store and stole 27 cases of cigarettes, cigars and tobacco products and four cases of chewing gum, total value in excess of £2,000. Police seek this man after elderly lady's purse stolen

Police are appealing to the public to help them identify a man who detectives would like to speak to in connection with the theft of a purse, belonging to an elderly lady.

It is understood that the victim, who is from the Teigmouth area, lost her purse on Thursday 6th December.

Police believe the man pictured in the CCTV may have some information that could help their enquiry.

Cash withdrawals and transactions were carried out using the stolen bank cards in Teignmouth and in Torquay.

Teignmouth Road in Dawlish partially blocked by landslip

The A379 Teignmouth Road in Dawlish is partially blocked in both directions between the John Nash Drive junction and the Fordens Lane junction, because of a landslip.

There is also slow traffic on the A377 inbound in Exeter from Alphington Junction to Exe Bridges.

However, the good news is that the earlier lane closure on A38 Haldon Hill westbound between the A380 junction in Kenn and the B3344 junction in Heathfield due to a broken down vehicle has now cleared.

Burglars sought after Teignmouth school break in

Police are hunting for burglars who broke into sheds at Hazeldown Primary School in Teignmouth.

The offenders struck overnight on Tuesday 4th December and forced their way into two sheds in the school grounds. They stole two STIHL leaf blowers, one with a vaccum collection bag, plus three petrol cans containing fuel. The leaf blowers both have black handles and a white motor section with an orange-coloured patch. The petrol cans were green, red and grey.
