Dog beach ban starts on May 1

East Devon District Council has improved information and signs advising visitors and residents about the seasonal dog bans on some areas of our beaches.

This year, for the first time, the council is using temporary stencils at the beach entrances so that the ban areas are clear to everyone. The seasonal ban lasts from May 1st to September 30th each year.

Flybe to extend sunshine flights from Exeter

Flybe will offer year-round sunshine holiday flights at Exeter Airport following a deal with Regional & City Airports (RCA), the airport management division of Rigby Group PLC, Exeter Airport’s owner.

The partnership, which involves significant investment from both parties, will safeguard the future of Exeter Airport’s existing summer holiday flights to Alicante, Faro, Malaga and Palma, and will see year-round services being introduced to Alicante and Malaga. Police reveal summer drink drive figures

Figures have been released for Devon and Cornwall Police’s summer drink driving campaign for 2015.

Police officers administered a total of 788 breath tests of which 163 were positive, refused or failed to provide, equating to 20%.

Last year the comparable figures were 776 breath tests with 132 positive, refused or failed to provide which equates to 17%.

Examples which stood out during the campaign included a 37 male driver who blew 143 at 8:50am on a Saturday morning and a 71 year old male who blew 120 at 9:20am on a Tuesday morning. The legal limit is 35.

There’s a lot going on at Living Coasts this summer. Torquay’s coastal zoo is small but full of stuff to see, do and enjoy. And some of the enjoyment involves eating cake…

In addition to the usual timetable of feeding time talks about penguins, seals, otters and other species, there will be extra activities on most days through the summer. The theme for the season is Dive and Flight, looking at the different ways in which birds – and mammals – use these behaviours.

A wild Devon summer for all the family

Devon Wildlife Trust has teamed up with South West Water to offer a range of wildlife events for all ages this summer. The events have both water and wildlife themes and will include rockpool rambles on the coast, and pond-dipping, bug-hunting and wildlife walks at stunning nature reserves.

Severe weather warning issued for Devon

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning as windy weather is set to hit Devon.

While already windy today, winds are expected to increase further during tomorrow, becoming very gusty with a risk of gales over exposed coasts and hills.

With showers and longer spells of rain also forecast over the next few days, the public should be aware of the potential for some minor disruption to outdoor activities and difficult driving conditions.

The warning is valid from 6am-9pm tomorrow (Monday).
