Woman bit by dog and teenager suffers effects of smoke after fire at an Exeter home

A 15-year-old girl and a woman needed medical treatment after a fire at an Exeter home.

The girl suffered smoke ihnalation and the woman was bitten by a dog in the incident in Newman Road, St Thomas.

Below is Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue's report from the incident:

Serious incident closes Cowick Street

Police are investigating an incident that occurred in Exeter at approximinately 4.15am today (Saturday 8 August).

The incident is believed to have taken place at or around the junction of Cowick Street and Old Vicarage Road, St Thomas, Exeter.

A man believed to be in his early 20s is being treated at Derriford hospital.

A Police investigation is ongoing.

Cowick Street was closed for most of the day between Old Vicarage Road and the Wardrew Road junction.

Appeal after man assaulted in Exeter subway

Police in Exeter are appealing for witnesses after a 19-year-old man was assaulted in the St Thomas area of the city.

The victim was assaulted by two males, believed to be teenagers, as he walked passed them in the subway at Cowick Street on Sunday 19 July at around 5.30pm.

One of the suspects pushed the victim to the ground and then jumped on his back while he lay there.

The victim, from Exeter, did not suffer any serious injuries but was left feeling shaken by the unprovoked attack.

Man rescued from smoke filled flat

A man was rescued from a smoke-filled flat in the St Thomas area of the city this afternoon (Monday 27 July).

Two fire engines from Exeter were sent to a report of smoke coming from a first floor flat window in Haven Road shortly before 2.30pm.

An ambulance was also requested to attend as it was unsure if anyone was still inside the property.

The fire service confirmed that a man was rescued from the flat, which was heavily smoke-logged, by two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and using a hose reel jet as a precaution.

A group campaigning for better travel solutions in the south west areas of Exeter has asked all prospective councillors for Cowick, Alphington and St Thomas for their views on key issues such as whether or not they support a review of proposed measures, including a park and ride on the site of Oaklands Riding School. Cyclists raise over £2,000 for dementia

Gina Awad, Project Lead of the Exeter Dementia Action Alliance, and 40 staff including seven GPs from St Thomas Health Centre, spent their Saturday morning cycling from Exeter to Exmouth and back again all in aid of raising funds for dementia.

They were inspired following a Dementia Friends information session delivered by Gina, who also volunteers as a Dementia Friends Champion in Exeter, and arranged this event to support her fundraising. Together they have raised approximately £2,300.
