Sidmouth Recycling Centre one of top 4 in the country

Devon's latest recycling centre in Sidmouth has made it into the finals in a prestigious national competition.

The site was announced as a 'runner up' in the Civic Amenity Site of the Year category in this years Awards for Excellence in Recycling and Waste Management organised by letsrecycle.com, making it one of the best in the UK.

The awards, now in their eleventh year, are renowned for showcasing innovation, dedication and success in recycling and sustainable waste management and were marked by an event at the Landmark Hotel in London on 1 May.

New study into Sidmouth to Feniton Trail

A major new study has been published looking at the possibility of developing a walking, cycling and riding route from Sidmouth to Feniton.

The concept of the 16km multi-use route, known informally as the Otter Trail, has been around for many years but has now been explored in more detail by the sustainable travel charity Sustrans. The study has follows a community meeting last year which highlighted the need for the report as part of the legacy work of the construction of Coleridge Bridge in Ottery St Mary, which opened to the public in August 2011. Charity Quiz to benefit two local charities

Local law firm, Gilbert Stephens LLP, is set to host another of its popular charity quizzes on Thursday 15 May at Kennaway House, Sidmouth, to raise funds for two local charities – Sidmouth Voluntary Services and FORCE Cancer Charity.

The event, organised by the law firm for the third consecutive year, starts at 7pm and hopes to attract over 70 people and raise hundreds of pounds on the night.

Held in Kennaway House’s Cellar Bar, a buffet will be included in the £30.00 team entry fee and the organisers are calling upon local people to get behind the fundraising event....

Bronze award for building site manager

Site manager Nathan Pyett from independent developer, C G Fry & Son has won a Considerate Constructors Scheme 2014 National Site Bronze Award.

Nathan received his award in London and was joined by his partner Julia Simmonds and Kevin Murch, Construction Director of C G Fry and his wife Teresa. Over £150,000 to go to East Devon Commmunities

Communities around East Devon are about to see an extra cash injection after parish and town councils successfully bid for over £150,000 of fresh funding.

In total, £155,558 will be placed in the district’s ‘Parishes Together Fund’ after East Devon District Council and Devon County Council worked together to raise the sum equal to £1.10 per elector. Projects including the Ottery Food Bank, the Cranbrook Community fund, the Axminster mental health organisation known as ‘The Project’ as well as several primary schools in the area are among the projects to benefit from the funding....

Public consultation for Sidmouth beach plan

Sidmouth's Beach Management Plan project team are holding a drop-in session at Sidmouth Sailing club next Thursday, 6 March, from 3pm to 7pm.

The public are invited to drop in at any time between 3pm and 6.30pm to learn more about the initiative, to give their views and provide local knowledge and information so the project team is properly informed.

The aims of the EDDC-sponsored project are to make sure Sidmouth's sea defences are performing as expected and to consider what needs to be done to reduce the rate of erosion at East Beach.
