Sidmouth Primary School pupils put their Planning hats on...

Twenty pupils from Sidmouth Primary School had a go at taking Planning decisions when they visited East Devon District Council.

The seven-year-olds, with their teacher Mrs Hammond, spent a morning at EDDC’s Knowle headquarters learning about Planning and Development as part of a school topic. They received help and guidance from council staff and from Councillor Christine Drew, EDDC Member Champion for Children and Young People (see photo).

The children had a look at current maps of Sidmouth and found where they lived, then were given maps from 80 years ago and 130 years...

Man arrested on suspicion of murder in Sidmouth to appear before Exeter Crown Court

Update: A 41-year old male from Sidmouth, Nicholas Jameson, has been charged with the murder of a 71-year-old Nottingham man, Brian Kemp. Jameson appeared at Exeter Magistrates Court on Saturday 28 September 2013, where he was remanded in custody to appear before Exeter Crown Court.

Reported 27 September: Police in Devon have launched a murder investigation following the death of a man who was allegedly assaulted in a Sidmouth pub.

Beginning a new venture used to mean applying for funding or getting a loan from the bank, but Ian Clifford from Sidmouth took a gamble on a new way of raising money for a new online venture called YouRock. He decided to try crowd-funding, a method of pitching an idea to the internet and gathering multiple pledges of support.

Stagecoach confirms details of forthcoming Newton Poppleford service diversions

Stagecoach South West has today confirmed that, while South West Water carries out essential water main replacement work, its buses will not be able to run through Newton Poppleford for approximately three weeks from Saturday 5 October.

For the duration of the closure services 52A, 52B and 157 will be subject to lengthy diversions, with journeys between Exeter and Sidmouth and Seaton taking an additional 25 minutes and journeys between Exmouth and Sidmouth taking an additional 16 minutes. Services 52A and 52B will be diverted via the A30 and Honiton and service 157 will alternate...
