East Devon District Council to explore options for new HQ

Options for a new headquarters at Honiton or Cranbrook are to be put under the microscope following unanimous agreement from EDDC’s Cabinet on Wednesday 17 July that staying at Knowle is not a viable option.

Council Leader Paul Diviani says: “We looked long and hard at all the options on the table including staying at Knowle. The simple matter of fact is that our current offices are a huge drain on resources - as well as the financial considerations, the buildings are just not fit for purpose.

“We also considered in detail a number of options for demolishing the current...

East Devon District Council (EDDC) is responding to calls from some Sidmouth residents who want to retain the dilapidated Drill Hall on the seafront and refurbish it for community use.

The Council has already been in discussions with campaigners who wanted to halt the proposed demolition of the ageing building.

The Council’s Chief Executive exchanged emails and later met with Matt Booth, one of the lead campaigners, in December last year to discuss the group’s ideas. Mark Williams gave him advice about the procedures a community-led group would need to follow in order to...

The new larger centre will give residents a far superior service with minimal queuing and congestion and make it far easier and convenient to recycle household items and waste.

The site will be of a split-level design...

Distinctive jewellery stolen from Sidmouth home

Police are hunting for burglars who broke into a Sidmouth home and stole thousands of pounds worth of distinctive jewellery. The homeowners returned home on 10th January to find their Sid Lane property had been broken into and the safe stolen.

The safe was so heavy that the offenders used a small garden trolley from the garage to transport it to...
