Nurse recruitment open day

THE Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust is hoping the success of its nurse recruitment open days continues when it holds its latest event in Sidmouth later this month.

The Trust is looking for experienced and newly-qualified Band 5 nurses to bolster the teams at its community hospitals in East Devon.

The main aim will be to recruit enough nurses to enable inpatient services to be reinstated at Axminster, where the beds remain temporarily closed due to concerns over lone working and staffing levels.

Council gives green light for Knowle exit

East Devon District Council WILL be moving out of its ageing offices at Sidmouth for purpose-built and modernised accommodation at Honiton and Exmouth respectively. After a lengthy debate last night (Wednesday 25 March) Full Council voted by a significant majority that the authority should sell its Knowle headquarters in Sidmouth and move to the dual-site solution at Honiton and Exmouth. Jewellery taken in Sidmouth burglary

Police are appealing for information after items of jewellery of huge sentimental value were taken from a property near Sidmouth.

A double-stranded pearl necklace, silver rose quartz set of earrings, and a rose quartz pendant on a silver chain were taken during a burglary at a property in Glebelands, Newton Poppleford.

Detectives believe entry was gained through an insecure door, sometime between 10am and 10.45pm on Thursday 19 March.

Donkey Sanctuary launches annual car show

The Donkey Sanctuary in Sidmouth is looking for proud owners to show off their cherished motors at its first ever annual Car Show this July.

There will be competitions for modern and vintage cars with categories including ‘Show and Shine’ and ‘Best in Show’.

Fabulous prizes include top ‘detailing’ kits kindly sponsored by Servo Engineering, Exeter.

Visitors can enter a free raffle to win a pressure washer and a range of cleaning products.

As well as admiring beautiful motors the show offers the chance to meet hundreds of rescued donkeys and mules on site...

On Sunday 15 March children are invited to make a natural present for mum at ‘Making Mothers’ Day special’ at the Younghayes Centre in Cranbrook, EX5 7DR.

East Devon District Council’s Cabinet will next week (11 March) be asked, finally, to recommend that the authority sells its Knowle headquarters in Sidmouth and moves to the dual-site solution at Honiton and Exmouth. This would be the culmination of the council’s long-standing Moving and Improving project.

If Cabinet agrees, the matter will be analysed by a joint meeting of two scrutinising committees the following day (12 March) and a final decision will be made by Full Council at a special meeting on 25 March. The timings have been set to avoid this major decision getting caught...
