Weekly rep continues at the Manor Pavilion Theatre in Sidmouth next week with the arrival of the second production, Joking Apart by Alan Ayckbourn, which runs from Thursday 2 to Wednesday 8 July 2015.

The Summer Rep Season sees one company of actors present a season of twelve classic revivals throughout summer, with a new production each week until the end of September. The Donkey Sanctuary is holding its first Car Show at Sidmouth on 5 July 2015 from 10am – 2pm.

A whole range of cars are ready to be showcased from the vintage era to the modern day classics, lovingly presented by their owners and clubs.

All visitors will be given the opportunity to enter the free prize draw to win some fantastic car cleaning products! For the exhibitors, there will be a ‘Show & Shine’ competition with various different categories and also an award for the ‘Best in Show’.

Anonymous benefactor donates £7k for new bus shelter

A fairy godperson has flown to the rescue of East Devon District Council by donating the full price of a new bus shelter - £6,840 – to replace the vandalised shelter at Sidmouth Triangle, which the council had to remove for safety reasons. Budget cuts had meant that the council were unable to replace the shelter, which was so badly damaged by fire that it required a complete – and costly - rebuild in hardwood. The council’s insurance company had refused to pay out because the insurance did not cover street furniture, which is what the bus shelter was classified as. But now all that is...

Open air theatre comes to East Devon

Open air theatre, including works by Shakespeare and Jane Austen, will be staged in two of East Devon’s best loved parks this summer.

Four touring theatre companies are bringing their productions to the beautiful Connaught Gardens in Sidmouth and Manor Gardens in Exmouth in a joint project between East Devon District Council’s StreetScene and Countryside departments. Topping the bill will be The Tempest, Much Ado about Nothing, Hamlet, Pride and Prejudice and the Triumph of Love.

Exeter’s tennis venues have been huge for me, says East Devon tennis ace

Creating space for people and wildlife at Peak Hill

Over the winter, the National Trust has been busy creating open glades at Peak Hill in Sidmouth to benefit wildlife and create new vistas for those walking along the beautiful south west coast path.

“Lots of wildlife flourishes in more open habitats including beautiful wild flowers and butterflies,” explains Chris Jones, Countryside Ranger for the National Trust East Devon Coast and Countryside team. “We’re excited to find out which species of plant and animal will benefit from our work and we would be grateful to hear from the public if they spot anything unusual.”

Pedestrian seriously injured in collision

Police are appealing for witnesses to a serious collision in Sidmouth which left a 65-year-old pedestrian with life-threatening injuries.

Emergency services were called to Church Street in Sidford at 6pm yesterday (16 April) after a Vauxhall Corsa car-derived van was in collision with the male pedestrian.

The Sidmouth man sustained serious injuries and was flown by air ambulance to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth, where he remains in a stable condition.

The driver, a 41-year-old man from Seaton, was uninjured.
