Unusual clues left at Seaton break-in

Police are appealing for help to trace a burglar who broke into a Seaton home and left behind their own belongings - a distinctive woolly hat and a sandwich.

The offender got into the house through an insecure door sometime between 11pm on Good Friday and 8.30am on Saturday [27 March].

Once inside the offender stole a silver iPad Air and a pair of new Vans trainers from their box.

However the occupants were left puzzled after the offender left behind some of their own belongings - including a Tesco tortilla wrap sandwich still in its packaging.

A £4million visitor attraction is set to open its doors to visitors for the first time this Easter.

Seaton Jurassic is based in the East Devon coastal resort of Seaton. It hopes to attract thousands of visitors to experience its unique telling of the story of life and particularly how it has evolved on the Jurassic Coast over the past 250 million years ago.

Seaton’s long-held dream for a flagship visitor attraction, reflecting its rightful place at the heart of the world-renowned Jurassic Coast, becomes a reality later this month with the opening of a £4m visitor centre which is expected to attract more than 60,000 people a year.

Volunteers maintain East Devon’s Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty

East Devon District Council’s Countryside Team has been overwhelmed by the commitment and generosity of local volunteers.

Throughout 2015, they dedicated an astonishing 4,500 hours of service to the East Devon Countryside team, maintaining and preserving important nature reserves.

Plans to deter boy racers in E Devon

An ongoing problem of vehicle related anti-social behavior, including revving engines, loud music, litter and dangerous driving (often at high speeds) in Seaton’s Jurassic car park and Sidmouth’s Manor Road car park during the evenings, is to be discouraged.

East Devon’s bathing waters cleaner than ever

The bathing waters at East Devon’s eight beaches have all passed the new stringent testing standards set by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).

The announcement of the 2015 bathing water quality results, which was made by Defra earlier today, revealed that four of the district’s beaches received an Excellent classification – which is the highest and cleanest class, while three received a Good water quality rating and one, Ladram Bay (which is privately owned and managed) a Sufficient rating.

Law firm raises £2,000 in Will Fortnight

Solicitors at Beviss & Beckingsale raised two grand in two weeks by writing and amending wills for clients in exchange for a donation to local charity Hospiscare.

The Honiton-­based law firm raised a total of £2,004 to help care for patients living with a terminal illness in Exeter, Mid and East Devon.

Lawyers at Beviss & Beckingsale’s office in Honiton raised £1,044, a further £500 came from the Chard office, £385 from staff in Axminster and £75 from Seaton.

New information board for nature reserve

Members of Axe Vale and District Conservation Society (AV&DCS) have been celebrating the installation of a new board at the Borrow Pit nature reserve.

Seaton Jurassic construction complete

The main build of Seaton Jurassic and the public amphitheatre has now been completed.

The construction work started in September 2014 and has been successfully carried out by the Exeter-based firm Kier Construction. The internal installation of the exhibition halls as well as café and signage will be finished by February, ready for opening in spring 2016.
