The Seaton Jurassic project team, including East Devon District Council and Devon Wildlife Trust, will be out and about during Grizfest tomorrow (Saturday 28 February) to hear views on the proposed new sculptures for Fisherman’s Gap.

The sculptures, if approved, will form one of four new information/meeting points to encourage visitors to Seaton Jurassic to explore the Seaton landscape and the Jurassic Coast. Wildlife gardening at the Wetlands

Anyone with an interest in gardening to benefit wildlife is invited to an event on Wednesday 18 February between 10am and 2pm at the Axe Estuary Wetlands, Seaton.

The East Devon District Council Countryside team will be developing their wildlife garden on the nature reserve and are looking for help with practical hands on tasks such as clearing and planting.

Tributes to man killed in Colyton collision

A man who died in a collision in Colyton has been named as Richard Daniel Manley, aged 43.

Richard grew up in Plymouth, but has lately been living in Seaton with his young family.

Richard was described by his family as loving father, brother and son who was very proud of his time serving in 26 Royal Engineers. He was always willing to help anyone in need and nothing was ever too much trouble for him. He was a genuinely good guy, with a heart of gold who will be sorely missed by all his family and friends.

Beach huts improvements get thumbs up

East Devon District Council cabinet has recommended that an extensive refurbishment and replacement programme be put in place to improve the current provision of its popular beach huts and chalets at Sidmouth, Exmouth, Budleigh Salterton, Seaton and Beer.

To ensure the economic viability and sustainability of the beach huts, as an enduring local amenity, a sinking fund of £19,000 will be established, which will enable new beach hut schemes to be created. It will also mean that old huts, which have reached the end of their life, can be replaced.

Following last month’s ‘turf cutting’ work is moving at a pace on the site of the new visitor centre, Seaton Jurassic. The old Tourist Information Centre has been demolished so that construction on the new centre can begin and the new car park entrance, at the Marsh Lane end of The Underfleet, is on schedule for completion by the end of the month. The short stay car park is now restricted to disabled users only and from 24 October will be closed completely with all traffic following the signed roadway to the long stay car park.
