Police are appealing for help to trace a burglar who broke into a Seaton home and left behind their own belongings - a distinctive woolly hat and a sandwich.

The offender got into the house through an insecure door sometime between 11pm on Good Friday and 8.30am on Saturday [27 March].

Once inside the offender stole a silver iPad Air and a pair of new Vans trainers from their box.

However the occupants were left puzzled after the offender left behind some of their own belongings - including a Tesco tortilla wrap sandwich still in its packaging.

Also left was a distinctive fawn coloured woollen hat with ear flaps and tassels off the ears [pictured]. The hat had a black and white pattern around the middle.

Police are investigating the burglary and appealing to anyone who knows anyone who may have been wearing such a distinctive hat around Seaton.

Detectives are also asking for anyone who has been offered or seen the iPad or trainers for sale, or anyone who has been seen in possession of the items, to contact them.

The silver iPad was in a black and gold/brown case and the trainers are black lace-ups in size nine with a palm tree leaf pattern.
