Sandy Park

D-Day for Chiefs World Cup hopes

The Exeter Chiefs will find out today if they have been named as a Rugby World Cup venue.

Last March it was confirmed that Sandy Park had been added to the long list of match venues for Rugby World Cup 2015 and an announcement was due to be made this morning by the organising committee.

The Devon venue was identified as one of a number of potential hosting sites by competition organisers, who are keen to ensure the four-yearly tournament utilises venues all over the country.

Sandy Park, which was built in 2006 at a cost of £15 million, meets all of the Rugby World...

Chiefs are relishing sold-out Leicester game tonight

Aussie international Dean Mumm says he and his Exeter Chiefs team-mates are relishing a return to Aviva Premiership action this afternoon when Leicester Tigers provide the opposition in a sold-out encounter at Sandy Park (5pm). Without a game for two weekends, the Devon club welcome a star-studded Tigers line-up to the Westcountry not only looking to build on successive top flight wins over London Welsh and Harlequins, but also keeping their push for the top six firmly on track. Mumm, a summer recruit from Super 15 side Waratahs, has settled in well to life in England and having...

Chiefs unveil new signing for 2013/14 season

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter believes new signing Ceri Sweeney is a "perfect fit" as he looks to bolster his squad for the 2013/14 season. The Welsh international, who has agreed a one-year deal, is Baxter's third capture ahead of next season following club-mate Tom James from the Cardiff Blues and also Gloucester's Dave Lewis. Fly-half Sweeney heads to Sandy Park after five years in the Welsh capital with the Blues, where he has scored 324 points in 109 appearances - and before that four seasons with the Newport-Gwent Dragons where he landed 570 points in 86 appearances. His...

Having impressively overcome Premiership rivals London Welsh in their opening LV= Cup fixture of the season, Exeter Chiefs coach Ricky Pellow has challenged his side to now "back it up" when they play host to the Ospreys at Sandy Park tomorrow (5pm).

Like the Chiefs, the Welsh region kicked off their campaign with a 33-27 victory over Gloucester a week ago and Pellow expects Steve Tandy's visitors to pose a creditable threat to his side.

"Going to London Welsh last weekend a was a real challenge for us, yet the guys put in an excellent performance up there," said Pellow,...

Exeter Chiefs assistant coach Ali Hepher insists it's vital his side head into tomorrow's Aviva Premiership home encounter with Worcester Warriors with the right mental approach as they look to end a run of three successive defeats.

In what has been a testing period of fixtures for the Chiefs, back-to-back losses in the Heineken Cup against Leinster and Clermont Auvergne were followed up a week ago when the Devon club went down 23-15 to Westcountry rivals Bath at the Recreation Ground.

Hepher feels that in at least two of those fixtures [Leinster and Bath], the Chiefs...

Three years ago this weekend Exeter Chiefs were gearing themselves up for a home date with Rotherham Titans in the first year of the new-look RFU Championship.

This evening, Sandy Park will be packed to the rafters as the Devon club prepare to entertain top French outfit Clermont Auvergne for the first-ever Heineken Cup game staged in the Westcountry (6pm).

In the 36 months that have ensued between the two fixtures, it's hard to quantify just how much has been achieved by the Chiefs in what is perceived as a relatively short space of time in sporting terms.

What is clear...
