Tony Rowe predicts a bright future for the Chiefs

Exeter Chiefs Rugby Club chief executive Tony Rowe is predicting a bright future ahead for the Aviva Premiership outfit after councillors in the city gave planning consent for the multi-million pound redevelopment of their Sandy Park Stadium.

In the proposals submitted by the ambitious Devon club, they intend over at least the next five years to raise their ground capacity from that of the current figure of 10,744 to double that of 20,600.

The redevelopment plans, which will total in the region of £24 million when completed, will involve building three new...

Exeter Chiefs' first taste of Heineken Cup rugby in Devon turned sour as French visitors Clermont Auvergne served up a Saturday night treat at Sandy Park.

Vern Cotter's side were in inspired form as they ran in six tries - five of them in the second half - to maintain pole position of Pool 5 after the first two round.

The hosts led 12-10 at half-time through four Gareth Steenson (pictured) penalties, with Clermont replying via a Napolioni Nalaga try and Morgan Parra's boot.

However, two tries soon after the break from French internationals Wesley Fofana and...

Exeter Braves returned to winning ways in the Aviva Premiership A League as they swept aside visiting London Irish 52-5 in a one-sided encounter at Sandy Park.

The defending champions were in ruthless mood on home soil as they put to bed the disappointment of their loss at Harlequins last time out to run in seven tries.

Alex Brown, Will Carrick-Smith, Luke Cowan-Dickie, Mark Foster, Myles Dorrian, Jack Arnott and Tom Cowan-Dickie all crossed for tries, whilst fly-half Henry Slade helped himself to a 14-point haul.

Unbeaten at home in the competition this season,...

Exeter Chiefs' head coach Rob Baxter says his team will have to produce a "big performance" if they are to overcome defending champions Harlequins in their latest Aviva Premiership fixture tomorrow (3pm).

Undone 30-8 at Leicester Tigers a week ago, Baxter is hoping for an immediate riposte from his side as they prepare to welcome Conor O'Shea's men to Sandy Park for the third time in the top flight.

Like the Chiefs, Harlequins also came unstuck last time out, losing their unbeaten tag...

Chudley calls for more of the same

Will Chudley says Exeter Chiefs can’t afford to show the stars of Clermont Auvergne too much respect in Saturday’s European Champions Cup showdown.

One of the heavyweights of world rugby, Clermont currently lead the Top 14 standings and were beaten finalists in last season’s European Champions Cup after losing to Toulon.

Exeter head into the clash with Franck Azéma’s glittering squad knowing that defeat at Sandy Park without so much as a bonus point would leave their European campaign in dire straits.

But Chudley, whose form at scrum-half has been an integral part...
