More than 100,000 people have contacted BBC Local Radio’s coronavirus helpline since it was set up two weeks ago.

The Make a Difference campaign was launched to link up those in need of help with those who can provide it.

It is the biggest response the BBC has ever had to a Local Radio campaign.

Make a Difference has already helped get essential items to a terminally ill father of three, find a lift to work for an NHS worker whose car had broken down and stopped a man from getting evicted from his home.

BBC Local Radio is teaming up with manufacturers, retailers and a loneliness charity to offer free DAB radios to the most vulnerable people aged over 70.

It comes as millions of people are forced to stay in their homes and isolate from their friends and families because of the coronavirus outbreak.

Radio is a vital source of news, information and companionship in these unprecedented times and BBC Local Radio wants to ensure as many people as possible have access to it.

New editors join BBC Spotlight and BBC Radio Cornwall

Daisy Griffith is now leading the most popular regional news bulletin in the country, Spotlight, which reaches more than 50 per cent of the South West each week.

Meanwhile Emma Clements is running BBC Radio Cornwall, a station with more than 100,000 weekly listeners.

Stephanie Marshall, head of the BBC in the South West and West, said the experienced journalists would bring “diligence and creativity”, particularly during a "critical time for the the South West and the UK as a whole".

Digital radio listeners in Cornwall and Devon are being urged to retune their DAB digital radios to receive 19 further radio stations on DAB digital radio for the time, following the launch of five new transmitters serving the two counties.

Exeter, Mid and East Devon commercial radio station Radio Exe has just received its highest ratings.

Independent figures published today by Rajar/Ipsos MORI/BMRB show that 29,000 people tune to the station each week and they’re listening for longer. It

means that station has now overtaken two national stations, Classic FM and BBC 5 Live, to achieve its highest share of listening in the area.

BBC Radio 1’s Scott Mills this morning announced the line-up for BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend Exeter 2016, revealing that acts including Mumford and Sons, The Weeknd, Iggy Azalea, Nick Jonas and Jess Glynne will perform at Europe’s biggest free ticketed event at Powderham Castle on 28th and 29th May.
