Devon's rowers finish Atlantic challenge to build plastic-free legacy

Row for the Ocean has completed the world's toughest row to raise awareness of ocean plastic pollution for South West charity Surfers Against Sewage.

The four-woman team, three of whom belong to Exeter Rowing Club, were the first all-female crew to reach the finish line of the 2018/19 Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge.

With 3,000 miles behind them, the ocean adventurers arrived in Antigua after 43 days, 2 hours and 20 minutes at sea.

Exeter’s four-woman ‘Row For The Ocean’ team, who set off yesterday (Wednesday, December 12th) in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge, is delighted to announce a new sponsor whose tagline is ‘Let’s discover the world’. Online travel agent Travel Up has become the team’s Platinum Partner for the race, pledging £10,000 in funding.

With World Oceans Day on the horizon this Friday, the four women behind Exeter’s ‘Row for the Ocean’ team are urging people to help them reach their £10,000 crowdfunding target as the campaign enters its final week.

Kirsty Barker, Rosalind Holsgrove-West, Kate Salmon, and Laura Try launched their Crowdfunder in May in the final push to fund their transatlantic challenge in December. A public consultation is set to be launched on ways to improve air quality and cut congestion in Exeter. The Draft Exeter City Council Air Quality Action Plan 2018-2023 contains a wide range of proposals to reduce exposure to air pollution and improve health and quality of life.
