Exeter Local Policing team have launched their ‘Think Before You Park’ project in partnership with Devon and Somerset Fire & Rescue and Exeter County Council Parking Enforcement.

The project is an exciting new multiagency initiative that aims to tackle problem parking, where drivers have parked anti-socially, without care or consideration for other road users, pedestrians and emergency service vehicles.

Warning following thefts in East Devon

Residents in East Devon are being warned to be vigilant after a series of thefts have been reported to police over the last few weeks.

Thieves have entered barns, garages and sheds in rural areas, surrounding Ottery St Mary, by removing the hinges or the padlocks and stolen items from inside including power tools, animal feed, animal bedding, fencing, petrol and small items.

Car smoking ban comes into force

New legislation has come into force today (1st October) which makes it an offence to smoke in a vehicle containing a person under the age of 18.

The Smoke-Free (Private Vehicles) Regulations 2015 has been introduced to protect children from the harms of second-hand smoke.

It is now an offence to smoke in a private vehicle with someone under the age of 18 present, and if you are the driver, to fail to prevent smoking in your vehicle with someone under-18 present.

Child injured in quad bike collision

Police are appealing for witnesses after a child was injured when a quad bike overturned in Holsworthy at the weekend.

The mini quad bike was being ridden by a four-year-old girl from the local area, with family members walking alongside, when the incident happened at around 5.30pm on Sunday 27 September.

They were on the public footway, which leads from Bodmin Street over the River Deer, heading in the Bude direction, when the quad bike collided with the verge and wall of the viaduct bridge and overturned onto the four-year-old child.

Police appeal after arson attacks

Police in Exmouth are appealing for information following an arson in the town.

Detectives in Exmouth are investigating an arson that occurred at a multi occupancy property on Exeter Road in Exmouth, between 11:15pm and 11:30pm on Saturday 12 September.

The property is located on the smaller part of Exeter Road near the shops – not far from the junction with the main A396 Exeter Road.

Damage was caused after a wooden front door was set alight.

Appeal after suitcase stolen from train

Police have issued an image of a man who tried to use a stolen bank card in Torquay, which was taken in a suitcase theft on a Liskeard-bound train.

Officers from British Transport Police (BTP) hope someone will recognise the man – caught on camera outside the Halifax bank on Union Street making several attempts to enter the pin number– and come forward with his name.

A laptop was among other items inside the suitcase, which was stolen on the 4.25pm First Great Western train from Exeter on 19 July.

Police in burglary witness appeal

Police are investigating a burglary that took place at a property in Clyst St Mary in which jewellery and cash was stolen.

The incident took place at a property in the Cat and Fiddle Park, near Exeter between 5pm 28th August and 10am 29th August whilst the elderly occupants were away.

A 43-year man from Exmouth has been arrested on suspicion of burglary and has been bailed until 4th November pending further enquiries.

Several items of jewellery including pendants, bracelets, necklaces, rings and a wristwatch were stolen along with £500, €400 and a Royal Doulton...

CCTV appeal after sexual assault on train

Update: 23 September: Police investigating a sexual assault, which happened on a train between Taunton and Exeter on 15 July, have arrested a man in connection with the matter.

The 36-year-old from Bideford was arrested yesterday (23 September) on suspicion of sexual assault. He was later released on police bail pending further inquiries.

The man came forward following a media appeal to trace a person detectives wanted to speak to about the incident. Officers would like to thank all those who shared the appeal.
