Devon artists stage exhibition in Germany

Artists from Devon have been invited to exhibit their works in Essen, once a centre of the German mining and steel industry.

They will be presenting paintings of the beautiful landscapes of Devon and Cornwall. The German people are particularly interested in this part of the United Kingdom since more than a hundred of Rosamunde Pilcher's novels have been adapted for television by a high ranking German TV station, earning the German producer and Rosamunde Pilcher the British Tourism Award in 2002.

Members of the Devon Art Society will be displaying their finest works at St Annes Hall, Babbacombe Road, Babbacombe.

The show runs from Saturday 1 August through until Sunday 16 August and admission is free.

The exhibition covers classical themes with floral, still-life, figurative and landscape as well as seascape subject matters. There will also be some abstracts but much of the work covers beautiful scenes of the West Country. You will be able to enjoy some high quality paintings large and small at affordable prices.

Flower painting inspires designer at Toby Buckland’s Garden Festival

Floral designer and judge on BBC2’s “The Big Allotment Challenge”, Jonathan Moseley has gathered a selection of garden blooms and purchased flowers to create the eclectic mix of colours and varieties to bring a 17th century Dutch floral painting to life in anticipation of the exciting gardening spectacular Toby Buckland’s Garden Festival at Powderham Castle.

Internationally renowned music icon Bob Dylan will have a vibrant selection of his art on show in Exeter in a retrospective exhibition that brings together works released annually from 2008 to 2014, all from his critically-acclaimed collection: The Drawn Blank Series. From 16 August to 31 August​ the Devon Art Society will be holding their summer exhibition at St Anne’s Hall, Babbacombe. The hall will be open every day 10am - 6pm. Admission is free.

Members of the society will be showing and selling original paintings, watercolours, pastels, oils, acrylics, mixed media, and more. The Society has a long tradition of exhibiting going back 102 years. Many famous names have passed through their doors with Arthur Hacker their first president being just one of them.
