M&S to open new Exmouth foodhall

The new Marks & Spencer (M&S) Foodhall in Exmouth is set to open at 10am on Wednesday 29th March. Located on Royal Avenue, a stone’s throw from the railway station, the M&S Foodhall will feature a 24 seat Café, as well as the very best of M&S’s innovative and delicious food and drink products.

The Exmouth Players are holding auditions for their production of “The Titfield Thunderbolt”, a comedy by Philip Goulding, at The Blackmore Theatre, Bicton Street, on Sunday, 26th March 2017 starting at 3.00pm.

The play itself will run from Monday 3rd through to Saturday 8th July, including a Saturday matinee.

These auditions are open to you all. You don’t have to be a member of The Exmouth Players or even have acted before. Simply pop along and enjoy the occasion.

Riverside Leisure Centre to reopen this month

Work has begun to reopen Exeter’s Riverside Leisure Centre following last month’s devastating fire.

A statement from Legacy Leisure, which operates Riverside Leisure Centre, on behalf of Exeter City council said: “Following the fire on 21 February, the damage has been assessed and work has now begun to reopen the leisure centre facilities in stages.

New Phear Park play area opens

Phear Park’s new improved play area, featuring £48,000 of exciting leisure equipment, was officially declared open on Monday 21 March 2016 by East Devon District Council’s Chairman Councillor Stuart Hughes and Exmouth Town Mayor Councillor Maddy Chapman, who is also ward member for Exmouth Brixington.

People in Exeter are being given the chance to quiz councillors on any key issues for the city.

Exeter residents are invited to put forward questions to members of the joint County and City Councils' Exeter Board, at their next meeting on 17 February at 5:30pm at the Civic Centre in Paris Street.

The Board allocates 15 minutes for their ‘open forum’, with three minutes per speaker, with a maximum of three to four speakers to allow time for discussion.

South Devon Highway opens

Devon County Council and Torbay Council, along with Galliford Try, have announced that the South Devon Highway is now open to traffic.

The new 5.5km dual carriageway opened to traffic in the early hours of Tuesday morning (15/12/15) in a phased process. Early on Monday evening a temporary closure of Hamelin Way, Torquay took place which enabled the removal of the roundabout at Kerswell Gardens and a final section of white lining painted on the intersections.

Samaritans appeal for more volunteers

If you have ever considered volunteering as a Samaritan, then clear your diary for the evening of Thursday, September 3.

That is the date of the next Open Evening being held by the Exeter Mid and East Devon branch of the charity, which relies entirely on volunteers to provide its telephone, email, SMS, letter and face-to-face listening service for those in distress.

The local branch currently has over 110 volunteers who help operate the service 24 hours a day, seven days a week, but there is always a need for more.
