Blundell's students complete Ten Tors Challenge

Twenty-two students from Blundell’s School took part in the annual Ten Tors event on Dartmoor over the weekend.

Despite gale force conditions in camp the night before the event, reducing sleep to just a couple of hours, all students made it to the start line at 7am and completed their respective distances in great spirits.

Conditions which improved as the weekend progressed served well to spur them on. Blundell’s fielded three teams; two 35 mile groups and a 45 mile group.

Private Bill Herd was a 25-year-old father-of- two from Exeter when he left his job as a Carter to join the Devonshire Regiment in 1914. He was killed in action four years later at Bapaume, France.

Bill was one of 11,500 Devon men and women who died in the First World War and will be remembered as part of an extraordinary ‘people’s tribute’ staged at the Devon County Show on May 18, 19 and 20 at Westpoint, Exeter.

Six months ago the Show appealed to local people to make a poppy in memory of those who had lost their lives and was stunned to receive just under 31,000 poppies...

New figures released by the British Heart Foundation (BHF) show residents in Devon and Cornwall raised an incredible £298,635 for the charity’s life saving research last year by fundraising in their community. Exeter City will meet Carlisle United in the League Two play-off semi-finals after the Cumbrians battled back from 2-1 down at half-time to claim all three points at St James Park.

City went into the match having already secured their place in the play-offs, but knowing a victory against Keith Curle’s side would probably end their visitors chance of finishing in the top seven.

The integration of Devon company Bandvulc, the UK’s largest truck tyre retreader, and innovative brand leader Continental less than a year ago is already delivering results, according to Managing Director Patrick O’Connell.

250 cinemas are hosting dedicated autism friendly cinema screenings this month right across the UK in partnership with Dimensions, a national not-for-profit support provider for people with learning disabilities and autism. Woodburn crowned Chiefs' Player of the Year

Olly Woodburn described being crowned as the Exeter Chiefs Player of the Year as his “proudest moment” in rugby following the club’s annual awards night on Thursday.

The talented winger, who last weekend was crowned the Supporters’ Player of the Year, scooped the top award in front of a record-breaking crowd of 641 people at Sandy Park.
